Screenwriter Says WB Actually Writing Six WONDER WOMAN Scripts

Screenwriter Says WB Actually Writing Six WONDER WOMAN Scripts

Arash Amel says Warner Bros. didn't just hire Jason Fuchs (Pan) to write their Wonder Woman movie but they've hired five other writers to pen separate scripts. Is this a tactic that will help produce the best Wonder Woman movie possible or are WB making a mistake?

Producer/screenwriter Arash Amel, who wrote Erased and Grace of Monaco, and is currently scripting the Marie Colvin biopic has shared on Twitter that he's heard an intriguing bit of gossip regarding WB's Wonder Woman movie.  Reportedly,  Warner Bros. has  hired not one but six screenwriters to write six, separate Wonder Woman solo films.  Presumably, WB will then pick the best script or pick the best elements from each for Michelle MacLaren to direct.  Amel views this practice with disdain (as any screenwriter should) but as comic book fans, hoping for the best Wonder Woman movie possible, what's your take on this tactic?

Yeah I've heard of different screenwriters doing TWO different scripts at the same time, but 6 sounds like overkill. Are they that uncertain about how to do this movie?

Great idea. They're doing this with Aquaman too.

Get the most out of these writers by having them compete.

I definitely see why this is an alarming situation from Amel's point of view though. Or any writer, for that matter.

@SauronsBANE

Wonder Woman is a pretty big movie. They need it to be critically successful.

I know this isn't the first super-heroine movie but it is the first big one.

@TronVin That's definitely true. Let's just hope they actually manage to pick the absolute best of the best of those scripts then. If Michelle MacLaren gets the final vote on it, that'd make me MUCH more relieved.

@TronVin I know, I just mean she better get the final say on who's script to use, and which elements to take from each script. When it comes to big studios hiring directors, usually they don't give them as much control as they should. Hopefully it's different with MacLaren.

of course this is horrible for the writers, because they are competing for just one job, but... for the actual movie, I think this is a good idea, since all writers will work harder and Warner/director at the end of the day will choose the best script from the six. So they have options, unlike having only one script with maybe not the best ideas.

Maybe they have six screenwriters so that they can pick the best script so they can make the best film?

Eh, what am I saying...

But that was Sony and their producers. Warner Bros. has things mapped out until 2020. I think they know what they want.

Any screenwriter should view this with disdain? they get paid like 100,000 dollars to write a script, it doesn't even need to be good. We are suppose to feel sorry for them? comparing this to a sweat shop is embarrassingly ignorant

Well what sounds worse? Six writers working on their own Wonder Woman scripts? Or six writers working on one Wonder Woman script?

As a fan, I love it. Make scripting a brainstorming session, and then have someone polish the winner (or winning combination). If I was a writer, I'd be pissed. Writer's don't normally have to audition their scripts. But, hopefully it gives us a great WW movie.
