Wonder Woman Movie May Finally be Under Way

Wonder Woman Movie May Finally be Under Way

New life has put into this project from the head of Silver Pictures himself!

Andrew Rona the new man in charge at Silver Pictures is now personally overseeing the live action Wonder Woman project along with producer Joel Silver.

Sources in the Burbank studios have confirmed there is a lot of movement on the WW front. With the long awaited Green Lantern movie going into production this year, it looks like everyone’s favorite Amazon, Princess Diana, may finally get the go ahead from WB for her live action movie.

WB and Silver Pictures are in the early stages and are eager to get started on the movie. IESB reports that WB is looking for new writers on the project and have been taking pitches the last few weeks.

It appears that DC/WB may finally start taking their eggs out of the superman/Batman basket. I am glad that the last member of the trinity may finally be getting her own movie.

I don't believe it until I see they have a script, an estimate, a location to film and a complete cast. On the other hand, if this time it is true, I am very happy to read the news.

'Wonder Woman' Underway At Last?
by Elisabeth Rappe Apr 21st 2008 // 10:02AM

Filed under: Action, Warner Brothers, RumorMonger, Fandom, Scripts, Comic/Superhero/Geek

"It is no end of strange that with all the superhero movies being greenlit, one of the biggest comic book icons has languished in development hell for years. How is it that the Hulk managed to get remade before Wonder Woman landed a single movie?

We've heard it before, but she may finally be on her way. IESB.net caught up with Joel Silver at the Speed Racer press junket, and to everyone's surprise, Silver mentioned the future of the Amazon superheroine. Silver says he has two new writers working on the script -- Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, authors of the WWII Wonder Woman script that Warner Bros bought last year.

The two are writing a whole new script, shying away from any origin story, but instead one looking at her background, and her homeland of Paradise Island. I don't know, that sounds like an origin story to me. No word on what has happened to the WWII spec.

No director has been named, but apparently the project came up in discussion with the Wachowski Brothers, and Silver mentioned that Andy has an idea how to open the Wonder Woman film. He refused to comment further, so this could just be a director offering some helpful advice to two writers. Silver also says that the Wonder Woman of that embattled Justice League Mortal and this film would be completely unrelated -- no surprise there."

So, while a part of me is excited that maybe this time it's the real deal there is another part of me that is not wanting to get my hopes up too high & a bit skeptical that some unknown is going to do it. And IF it is going to happen, PLEASE LET THEM DO RIGHT BY HER!!!

I have seen in www.imdb.com that Andrew Rona is now in pre-production with sin city 2 and one other film, so he will be quite busy to start with wonder woman.

id always thought lucy lawless would be perfect but its been to long since anyone has seen her. she's prolly 300lbs or something else bad.

To: Betty...I love Lucy Lawless but she may be too mature now for the part of WOnder WOman.

If you like Lucy Lawless perhaps a younger version of her would be Jody Lynn O'Keefe from Prison Break, she plays Gretchen. She is beautiful, naturally raven haired, blue eyes, 5'10, does kickboxing. She would be perfect as WOnder WOman. She has the looks, the age, skills fighting wise & the acting chops to pull it off.

If not her then Lena Headey would be Fantastic as well, very credible. The only thing with her is her height. She is 5'5. The Myth pointed her out to me & I would love if it could be so.

Rumor has it that the favorite for the role is MEgan Gale from Australia. While she is beautiful & is 5'11 we dont know if she has the acting ability to pull it off or the skills to fight.

Betty Lucy Lawless looks better than ever! Shes in Battlestar Galactica now. But she would be a bit old to play WW now..especially in an origin type movie.

I think Joss Whedon would have made a decent stab at it, shame he had to ditch the project.

keepitreal Lena Headey is no spring chicken herself! And while shes a beautiful looking woman i think shes a bit on the thin side for WW..i mean shes an Amazon right? Height can be exaggerated slightly but whoever plays her needs the right assets!
Betty
Betty - 3/18/2009, 9:12 AM
Jody Lynn O'Keefe WOULD make a good WW. Something about her says villianess though. maybe its her laser beam eyes.
Betty

Wow, lucy lawless IS looking good. Maybe she could play WW badass mom.
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 3/18/2009, 9:53 AM
Betty...lol... Its true! Jody usually is the bad girl in her roles... & if looks can kill she would have it! She is good at being bad... but can use her powers for good as Wonder Woman. She has the range & we DO want WW to be taken seriously like her counter parts in Trinity Batman & Superman. I for one don't want a sappy WW. I dont want her too butchy either like China. They would need to find the right balance for her & I think Jody could do it just right.

Lucy Lawless to play WW mom... I think that would be excellant if Lynda Carter were not available!

Rorsch, yes Lena is no spring chicken... she is younger than Lucy by 5 years but it doesnt show as much as Lucys age does. Lucy is 41 this year. I agree she is still beautiful & 5'11...gotta love that, so statuesque. Lena is only 5'5 1/2 per imdb..too bad.. because I belive w/her acting & maturity & her look for WW it would lend WW the credibility that she needs the way Christian Bale did for Batman.

Lena's thinness didnt really concern me because that is trivial! one thing that couldve been corrected with just gaining some weight & toning up.

I think that figure and height would be easy to find. In my opinion, Wonder Woman needs a voice. Kind of an odd thing to say I know. People will be to busy staring at her hot bod, and not respecting the performance. So the ideal Wonder Woman needs a powerful voice, she can't be girly or butch or plain. She needs to have a strong, regal, and Feminine voice. I thought the best voice so far was the one from the Justice league Unlimited, it had it all. Well thats my opinion.

HAWK out.

Her name was Susan Eisenberg, born in '78, is 5'7, and does voice overs for cartoons. I thought it was alright but I think Keri Russel voice over from that new WW animated movie was better IMO. (That was only the one of the very few things I liked about that movie.)

zinext - it's easy, watch... "NO! ...HELL NO!!". I've mentioned this before, but has anyone considered Jolene Blalock for the Amazon Princess?

http://www.evoll.com/hot2002/joleneblalock.jpg

She's:

a. Beautiful...
b. Acts...
c. Can do action...

...AND, she'd be a HELLUVA' lot more believable than Beyonce! I think she would do the role justice.

It could work, but she is 165 cm tall, and she must look like she has amazonian stature.

But I think DC will be quite busy preparating Green Lantern to think about anything related to Wonder Woman.

We could write all actresses statures in both feet and metric system, for all of who are not familiar which one of them :)

There is one actress on spanish TV: Amaia Salamanca, but honestly, I wouldn't choose her.

To: BmanHall ...man Jill Wagner is so pretty, definitely got that Amazon thing going on. She seems like she can get tough, nice. I dont know about Wonder Woman cuz she is 5'8 (1.73 m) but definitely as an Amazon Warrior, say the amaZon Wonder Woman goes against in the tournement to be the ambassador? Her or Rhona Mitra could be WW opponent.

Megan Foxx is beautiful but not the greatest actress. She is also too young for the role of Wonder Woman and too short 5' 5" (1.65 m). If she HAD to be in the movie of Wonder Woman I would say Wonder Girl.

To: Ryanallen... I think Megan Gale did get the part cuz they have her in IMDB for 2011. She has the dark hair & the sparkleing blue eyes so that is a start in the right direction. I only hope she can act too becuz that is SOOOO important! & that she can fight! She better get down & dirty and do the deed to kick ass!

Bad Logan! Where you been?! Have you seen my wish list?

Jolene Blalock? Do you have a picture that you can direct me to cuz the ones I see arent doing justice I think (IMDB & the link you posted). Not only that her height is only 5' 6" (1.68 m). I have never seen her work but she does look like she can do action. While maybe not as Wonder Woman IMHO maybe a Amazon Warrior? or a foe for Wonder Woman in mans world? hmmm...

To: Merinator..Glad you liked that I use both systems for the heights. =:)

Beyonce? Well let's break it down like we have for the others on why we would reject her as WOnder Woman.

1) She can't act.

2) Thinks fighting is like dancing

3) She is only 5' 6¼" (1.68 m)

4) She is black, Wonder Woman is not

5) She is "begging for the role"

******Wonder Woman doesnt beg SHE COMMANDS*******

6) She is "throwing herself at that role" She doesnt understand what it means to be Wonder Woman so how can she portray her on the screen?

7) She thinks "it's time for a Black Wonder Woman"
Who plays the race card to get what they want? I would've had more respect and understanding if she would've said she wanted to be just Wonder Woman and thats it.

Apparently someone was able to resist the powers of Beyonces & her career since they seem to have alreay chosen MEgan Gale. While I admit she wouldnt be my first pick it's alot better than Beyonce. IMHO.

@miss so called "keepitreal", Megan gale is playing wonder woman in the justice league movie, the same movie were armie hammer is batman(were they already messed up). as for the live action film its gonna be on a diffrent basis, most likely a diffrent person will potray her, as for rasing points on how beyonce wont get the role, ur in the position were u can pray for rain but it wont fall at ur command, so ur oppinions really dont phase the fact that when its time for casting to come out beyonce stands a strong chance to get it, face it, she is really a power player in the entertainment industry, and until the official word comes out im gonna predict she will get it, and as for the race card, how many black super woman are out there??? really??? if a black girl wants to play a superhero how many options to they really have??? and as far as wonderwoman goes, she is probally the only woman in comics period that has a prolific role, my point is if there was a black female hero with wonderwomans position than beyonce would of chased that role, get what im saying??
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 3/20/2009, 1:47 AM
Best believe it I KEEP IT VERY REAL, no doubt. There aint no "so called" anything about it. If your delicate sensibilites got hurt that's all on you.

I am keeping it very real by wanting Wonder Woman the way she was created. The way they have shown her in the comics, on tv, even the failed movie of '74 with Kathy Lee Crosby. She was white and SHE was considered UNIDENTIFIABLE so that would go DOUBLE for Beyonce. So how am I not keeping it real? Im sure not going to SELL OUT and give it to BEYONCE. That's my opinion and if you dont like it oh well.

I noticed that while I was not the only one to REJECT Beyonce I am the only one you are attacking. So it makes me think theres alot more to all this.

I dont know why the hostility. If you dont like my opinions say so. But I talk to people with respect.

You say the live action film will be on a different basis yet Wonder Woman is Wonder Woman, how much different could it be? YOu talk down to me like you know it all yet if you did you would know they have also considered keeping Megan Gale on as the role of Wonder Woman as a spin off from Justice League.

As for my OPINIONS for rejecting Beyonce I also had same reasons for rejecting other hopefuls as well yet she is the only rejection that offended you. Why is that? So typical.

Dont worry about my rain, yours is the drought that you need to worry about while you wait for Beyonce to be Wonder Woman.

Why does Beyonce stand such a strong chance? Because she is the most popular at the moment? Because she has Jay Z in her corner to buy their way in? What does she have to recommend her to the fans to be Wonder WOman when you have others who are vastly more qualified? Her background is singing and dancing and her acting is questionable. She doesnt look like wonder woman nor does she get WW so really why should she be considered? In what way does Beyonce relate to Wonder Woman? I am sure they are humoring her and hearing Beyonce out because she does have money and they would be stupid to offend her with a straight no, but really... I see them stringing her along. Using her name to hype things up.

I dont have to "face it" about her being a powerplay in the entertainment because quite frankly there are others who are better than her and you are just her fan pleading her case. But like you said, your opinions, my opinions...till the official word it out...

I'm not phased by it, it's all good. Your predicions? you could also predict that lil' green aliens will land on the White house...let me know how that works out.

Dont try to make it societies fault with that:

"how many black super woman are out there??? really??? if a black girl wants to play a superhero how many options to they really have???"

So now it's our fault? This is your answer to the "lack" of black super heros? Take a white one? Why arent black people making their own superheros in addition to the ones already out there if there is such a lack of "representation"? So for that we should be bullied into giving it to Beyonce? PRessured unfairly to be PC and appease the black girls? How insulting for you and me! To say black girls couldnt get it any other way than like that. Would black people be so generous in doing the same if the sitution were reversed? Would you be so accomadationg in making the Black Panther white and played by Ryan Reynolds?

You have plenty of options available. You have Storm, Vixen, Misty Knight, Captain Marvel/Photon/Pulsar, Nu'bia etc.. common, dont start with the boo-hoo now. If they are not good enough why not have the initiative and the PRIDE to start your own superhero that black girls can relate too and represent them? You dont just commodere another super hero that is already an established icon.

No, I dont get what you're saying because there are many other black superheros she can go after but wont because they are not "popular" or lacks what it takes to make them her own. Little does she know if she were smart, she could breath life into anyone of the other black super heros and go down as the first Vixen etc.. & really make it hers so that SHE would be used as the standards to go by like lynda Carter did for Wonder Woman.

She wants the spotlight nothing more, nothing less. If it wasnt Wonder Woman and they said they were doing someone else she would want it too if everyone else coveted it as well. The same way she wanted Lois Lane in Superman Returns. A spade is a spade. Call it like it is. KEEP IT REAL.

Great idea, Beyonce is indeed Vixen, and she could appear in the justice league movieor birds of prey, suppiosing she takes it seriously and kicks butts the way Vixen does.

Of course taking the role seriously goes for all actresses, no one of us wants a "poor" acting for a film head role.

Honestly, Angelina Jolie can do the wonder woman role, but I think the problem here is psychology: if I see Angelina Jolie I am thinking of her in "Tomb Raider terms", a hottie who kicks asses and is quite nervy/cocky.(IMHO)

And I know she has won an Oscar for Girl Interrupted and has acted in more ways and roles than that, as shown in Changelling, and others.

But she had to do Tomb Raider. And when someone plays an "iconic" role, they (and we too) type-cast the actor in question. Think about Kevin Sorbo, Michael Keaton, Christopher Reeve, Robert Englund (though Freddy Krueger wasn't invented yet), and Lynda Carter herself. And I haven't mentioned possibles sequels yet, by then she will be too old.

So, Wonder Woman needs new blood AND THE CORRECT APPROACH. That means the actress has to "set an high standard" (para los que hablan castellano, pensaba en decir que tiene dejar el listón muy alto), the script has to set an standard as well and they have to be very carefull about how much realism is set: Batman Begins was realistic and was great, but Wonder Woman is also very mystic, and everyone knows what is said about oil and water.

Until now, this is the best approach I have found to what should it be.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

QuickPost

And one other thing: WW needs, perhaps more than any other, luxury supporting actors.

The last question iis about the set and budget: A real-made set helps a lot to actors to play well, but is expensive.
A computer-made set is cheaper and can be great, but sometimes acting in front of the blue screen doesn't help.
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 3/20/2009, 2:22 PM
TO: Moraghan... niiice picture! Where did you get it? & how do you post it in the comments? Really good picture of Angelina Jolie!

Angelina is good and all but she is so overexposed IMHO. She looks really good in that picture but she has already been cast as Lara Croft and it's how most people associate her in terms of comics. And she also did Wanted, another super hero comic so she is a little tapped out in my opinion. She is also only 5'8 (1.73m)

Like Merinator says:

"the problem here is psychology: if I see Angelina Jolie I am thinking of her in "Tomb Raider terms", a hottie who kicks asses and is quite nervy/cocky.(IMHO0"

"when someone plays an "iconic" role, they (and we too) type-cast the actor in question."

To: Merinator... lo dijistes perfectamente. Por eso yo no pienso que deben escojer una cualquiera. Tienes que ser alguien que no es tan conocida pero si tienes la experencia para actuar.

They need to set the standard high. They need to be sure they have the right actress to play Wonder Woman that can bring Wonder Woman to life on the big screen. They need to be sure they asert the right amount of realism along with the mythological aspects of Wonder Woman. They need to find that balance. It can be done with the right screen writer which is why I am a little leary of this new unkown writer about to take on the movie. Hopefully, he will do well, and the director etc ect...

I hope that they film in America. It is Wonder Woman adopted home and she wears our colors with our eagle on her uniform so to speak.

Megan Gale, so far, has been slotted to play the role of WOnder WOman in Justice League.

The animated movie (how can I say it delicately?) sucked. It was awful & inaccurate. As a true Wonder Woman fan I couldnt help but notice how many errors and inconsistencies there were. @keepitreal, u sound like one of those woman that cant be pleased no matter wat,as for the movie we will see who is right, and as for the whole race thing, most major comic characters in dc were established before civil rights,so as far as "society" goes I will have to say hell yea, not ours ofcourse but from back then, and its because the fact that there is a lack of black superheros why most dudes i kno dont really mess wit the genre,i really wish i can throw some things i know about the whole race thing in comics in an editorial, but it will most likely get removed, anyways, it dosnt take a blind person to see that comics is dominated by white characters, however, im not gonna knock u for ur accurate fact that wonderwoman is based on greek mythology, witch u are totally right in that matter, but u cant blame any woman for wanting to be wonder woman.
