X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Not Undergoing "Extensive" Reshoots; Only Scheduled For Around Two And A Half Weeks

It appears that this morning's shocking report about X-Men: Dark Phoenix reshoots lasting three months has been debunked. Plus, we have some interesting new details on what the additional scenes involve.

Earlier today, Montreal-based outlet LaPresse reported that the upcoming reshoots for 20th Century Fox's long-awaited X-Men: Dark Phoenix would last close to three months, which sent shockwaves across the interwebs, but it looks like there may have been something lost in translation as that report has now effectively been debunked.

Our friends over at Collider have learned from industry sources that the production team is indeed heading back to Montreal sometime in the next few weeks for additional photography, but that it will only last around two and a half weeks - not three months.

The film's release date was originally delayed when it was determined that reshoots could not be completed before, at least, mid-fall due to the star cast's extremely busy schedules and instead of rushing out an unfinished product (see: Justice League), opted to push the film back a few months to February 2019, so that they could finish everything that needed to be done. This latest update from Collider also lines up with a THR report from March that revealed that reshoots would only cost around $10 million to complete.

As for what new stuff they're expected to shoot, the report shares that the third act is being beefed up with more action beats. A few new dramatic scenes and some new shots for previously recorded scenes are also expected to be filmed, but none of what's being added is said to be major.

Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix features:
Director: Simon Kinberg
James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X
Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto
Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast
Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers/Cyclops
Sophie Turner as Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix
Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe/Storm
Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler
Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver
Olivia Munn as Elizabeth Braddock/Psylocke
Jessica Chastain in an undisclosed role
Daniel Cudmore in an undisclosed role
Lamar Johnson in an undisclosed role

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters February 14

These stories today are giving me whiplash.

Screw this film. Let it burn, return to MARVEL and allow the X-Men to rise from the ashes. My two cents...

The ashes of Apocalypse and X-3?

@regularmovieguy - MARVEL'S X-MEN. Fox did what they did. It was a twenty year run, and I cannot knock it without being a hater, but now, it's time for the mutants to come into the MARVEL universe. Hulk vs Wolverine. Beast as an Avenger. Magneto's relationship with the Scarlet Witch. Storm/ Black Panther etc...

@CaptainAmerica - So what does that make this statement in regards to my two cents? Take care.

@tripttwe - this will be a 2 girls and a cup type horror show. Kinberg will go back to directing commercials on the Kansas City cable tv network for mattress stores and the like.

@Goldboink - Lol, that's a bit extreme, but I do think this has a scent of failure all over it. I love the X-Men, and I want to see them get the same level of respect as the Avengers, and I am not sure that this group can get it done. I feel like Apocalypse should have been the end all of villains prior to Thanos. Enter 2018 and he's not even mentioned...

Yes, but you, the various X-Men film haters and MCU purists are a vocal minority. The only films that have been poorly received by critics and/or audiences are X-Men 3: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Apocalypse. Fox has been releasing hit after hit after hit. Including:

-X-Men
-X2: X-Men United
-X-Men: First Class
-The Wolverine
-X-Men: Days of Future Past
-Deadpool
-Logan
-Deadpool 2

That's an 8/11 winning streak (not to mention Legion and Gifted). I'm not sure why you people try to make it sound like the X-Men films are this uber-hated franchise that has been running on fumes for years and just on the cusp of going back to Marvel for the last decade. It hasn't been at all. The broken timeline is infamous, but that's really about it. The only reason it ever went back to Marvel is because Fox sold their entire company.

You mean like how this movie was supposedly undergoing "extensive reshoots" (we now know it isn't), or how it was supposedly cancelled (because someone on a fan forum said it was)?

@Darkknight2149 - Those movies were good for the time but now its time for us to get a true X-MEN film not wolverine and his bitches. every film focused on wolverine (except x-men first class)

@SuperbatSpider1003 -
Wolverine hasn't even been the centre of the X-Men films for the last several years (except for his standalone films), and the only films that are old enough to be "good for their time" are X-Men and X2.

To lease a reshoot has been debunked. It’s actually going to take six months a reshoot.
Six hours later movies cancelex lol

@whynot - in the last couple of weeks.

-the film is being relased on Netflix/streaming service.
-the film is be shelved and never being released to the public.
-the film is doing reshoots in August.
-the reshoots will last 3 months.
-the reshoots are 2.5 weeks.

The only certain a thing is that Sohpie turners wig for the reshoots looks excellent (we won't have a Sue storm wig for F4). The wig maker posted images, and they got the hairline very relastic.

Exactly. Josh Wilding also reported that this film was going to be cancelled, and his source was a fan forum (I shit you not). Every time some MCU fanboy tries to make it sound like this film is in trouble, it ends up getting debunked.

2 hours later, we'd have a better chance of hearing that there are no reshoots at all.

@Darkknight2149 - I peronsally don't like to call people "MCU fanboys" (I love the MCU and the fox films) but I just get tired of the constant attempt to make everything negative regarding this film (and the franchise) with no evidence.

I fine with them ripping the trailers and reviews apart, because that is something that has been officially released (though let's be honest, this film could be a perfect adaptation of Dark Phoenix in every way and it would still be shat on).

@StormXmen123 -
I only categorise the people as "fanboys" who gratuitously pick apart anything that a studio does simply for not being their preferred studio (unfortunately, this site seems to be full of people like that).

People have different opinions, so I understand that not everyone is going to like the X-Men films. But disliking something to the point of wanting it to fail just because it isn't from Marvel is just petty. Funny enough, the hatred of the X-Men films didn't really become widespread on the Internet to this extent until people realised that Wolverine and co. wouldn't be crossing over with the Avengers.

There are a lot of DC fans that are like this, too. I think the mindless Marvel vs. DC hatred war was bad enough, but now we've had to deal with a Marvel within Marvel hatred war on top of that. Now that Disney owns Fox, hopefully a lot of this will go away.

Everyone remembers that scene from the end of one of Two and a Half Men where Alan is outside a coffee shop's window acting out of his misplaced jealously of seeing his brother Charlie apparently flirting with his GF screaming "I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!"? I wished that was gif-ed because that is how I feel about every report claiming that there is trouble behind the scenes with this movie only to later wonder "hmm I wonder if it is true or it is another fake one" before it gets confirmed that, indeed, it was fake.

Well that was my PSA of today. :)
