Former X-MEN Star James Marsden Open To Playing Cyclops In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Outside of the higher-ups at Marvel Studios, no one really knows what the company's plans are for the X-Men - but should they be looking at bringing back the cast from the original three movies, James Marsden would be open to playing the role of Cyclops once more in the MCU.

Although extremely unlikely to happen, Marsden was asked about the possibility of returning as the iconic superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Sure, I'd be down. I think that world, there just are no rules. You can do whatever you want. If there's some iteration down the line where we're involved...that's been a special thing to be a part of for a good period of my life and I love those fans and I love playing that character so, yeah, I'd be totally open to that."

Marsden played Cyclops from 2000 to 2006, starring in the original X-Men trilogy. Though his version of the character was killed off in X-Men: The Last Stand, the very next movie in the series, X-Men: First Class, was set decades prior to the original films. First Class served as a chance for Fox to reboot the franchise with new actors taking on the roles of the titular group. However, the time-traveling nature of X-Men: Days of Future Past did allow Marsden to briefly return to the role in a cameo appearance.

Tye Sheridan has since taken over the role, playing a young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse and in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, although it's highly unlikely he'll portray the character in the MCU. Disney executive Alan Horn confirmed this week that Dark Phoenix will be the "the perfect sendoff for our X-Men team," and the "final chapter" for the X-Men world.

Despite what you make think of Fox's X-Men movies now, the original trilogy helped push superheroes to the forefront of Hollywood and Marsden was considered a pretty awesome Scott Summers by many fans. Would you be down for him returning as Cyclops? Sound off below.

I'd be open to it. He never had the chance to really go heavy on the character.
