DARK PHOENIX Featurette Reflects On The Franchise's Legacy And Teases The Final Chapter

It's X-Men Day (apparently), so the now Disney-owned Fox has released an awesome new featurette reflecting on the legacy of the storied franchise while also teasing what's to come in the final chapter...

While Marvel Studios is planning to reboot the X-Men franchise at some point in the not too distant future, there's still one instalment of the main franchise left, and that is, of course, Dark Phoenix. Directed by Simon Kinberg, the movie doesn't really have a lot of positivity surrounding it right now, especially after Fox chose to show Mystique's demise in an early trailer.

The studio is owned by Disney these days, though, and that appears to have led to an improved marketing campaign for the final X-Men movie in the current saga.

This awesome featurette recaps the entire franchise (while making some notable omissions, including The Wolverine and the Deadpool movies) and teases what we can expect from Dark Phoenix as Jean Grey loses control and ends up going to war with her fellow X-Men as a result.

If you're a longtime fan of this franchise, then you may feel some serious emotions as you watch this because the interviews they've chosen with actors like Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart definitely tug at the heartstrings.

Check it out below, and stay tuned for more from Dark Phoenix as this "X-Men Day" continues...

That franchise has been dragged through the mud mostly. I do respect changing the landscape of super hero movies and there are some amazing chunks and films in here but this has been milked for a while. Kevin Feige, you're up!

I've zero interest in this one. X-Men is back at Marvel. That is what I am interested in.

@SuperCat - nailed it. I love how they are trying to say that it was all a plan, and epic, and amazing, when the reality was it became a heavily intervened from the studio. X2 and First Class were solid and fun films. And of course, Logan! Rest in Pieces Fox-Men.

@Antoin - I agree. The 3 you listed are the only decent films out of the entire franchise.

Days of Future Past was great at the time, but isn't holding up well for me personally and I think I've burned myself out just seeing it like 2 more times since release. Really because of what came before and after. Quicksilver scene, Erik and Charles, JLaw, Boring Beast, I've seen it all done and redone and redone, I feel like we're in a time-loop at this point and need to put this franchise to bed or it'll just keep making identical underwhelming sequels.

Logan is much more rewatchable IMO because of its standalone tone and singular focus

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I'm gonna keep saying this: Days of Future Past was the biggest mistake this franchise ever made. I seriously fail to see how after First Class (an unintentional soft reboot AND a fresh take on the X-Men that everyone wanted), FOX decided to rehash the old trilogy, left the old story of First Class behind, tried to mash clearly different timelines, and then afterwards introduced a new team of X-Men.

It was a mess of a movie.
