Tye Sheridan Says X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Is More Drama Than Superhero Movie

Well, this probably isn't what a lot of fans wanted to hear! Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan drops some big hints here about the relationship between Cyclops and Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix...

Despite the fact that we've seen a handful of official images from X-Men: Dark Phoenix, there's no sign of a trailer and plot details are very much being kept under wraps. We know that it will loosely adapt "The Dark Phoenix Saga" from the comic books, while first-time director Simon Kinberg will be behind the camera after penning the screenplay. So, are we getting another X-Men: Apocalypse or X-2?

While many fans are no doubt hoping for another action-packed blockbuster, it sounds like the franchise may be going back to its roots based on comments from Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan.

"Jean goes crazy in the movie," he said when asked for details on what fans should expect from the upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation. "Well, Cyclops doesn’t think she’s going crazy; Cyclops just thinks she’s gotta work some stuff out. It’s interesting, the drama in the movie. We treated this movie as much more of a drama versus a superhero film." The question is, is that the right direction?

We won't know until X-Men: Dark Phoenix reaches
theaters but there's a very good chance that this will be the final X-Men movie from Fox is the Disney deal goes through late this year/early next year.

@Beetleborg - yeah because Justice League and Civil War were so well received for slapping on tights and saving the day heroically *sarcasm*

Translation: Just like X1&2 its not about ripping off avengers and spider man but building relatable and likeable characters

@Kevwebsz - c’mon he was a block of wood. Boring as hell, and the guy you just wanted to get out of the way so Wolverine could bang the girl he liked. Everybody hated this guy as I remember it? But that was more general audiences back when it came out. I mean he’s the guy so boring they got rid of him straight off in X3 and nobody cared, including the other characters.

@connorblaze - i think when or if Marvel casts him, they gotta go with someone with as much charisma and charm as Chris Evans. You get the fun, outgoing types to play the buttoned-down, quiet guys, because their charisma shines through the dorkyness or stoicness of the role even though they’re playing it straight.

Perhaps they will follow the path of Logan and tell a deep story that isn’t necessarily about heroes stopping villains but just like... you know... a good story.
Here is hoping.

That’s good to hear, I think that’s always been the X-Men’s strength in both the comics and the film. It’s not about the spectacle, though that’s obviously there, it’s the great dramatic interactions, pathos and allegories.

I’m not expecting a lot from this film but I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic. We’ll see.

@FromACertainPOV - It's a shame they haven't had any real interesting characters outside charles and erik. Would make the drama seem more interesting if i was made to care about the characters experiencing it

I guess that has nothing at all to do with the succes of Logan...

Cause that is the main thing fans of the comics have been wishing for all this time - drama!

Sounds promising. I hope it'll be on par with First Class and DOFP.

Sounds great to me. I'm glad they are focusing in on Scot and Jeans relationship + it sounds like they creating tension between each of the member of the team: should they try to save Jean or stop her to save the world.

The go to description nowadays: "it's not a superhero movie, it's actually a drama."

I haven't been interested in an X-Men movie in a while admittedly so I'm kinda indifferent towards this one. However it has a very tiny bit of my curiosity to see how it turns out. If it's good and I'll like it, that'll be good, but nothing has convinced me thus far.
