GAMBIT: Possible Character Breakdowns Seemingly Confirm Mr. Sinister's Presence

A long list of character breakdowns for the upcoming Gambit movie have surfaced and it appears as if the Marvel movie will be packed full of familiar faces to comic book fans, including Mr. Sinister...

Now that Gambit has a director and confirmed release date, work has finally begun on finding a cast to join Channing Tatum's Remy LeBeau. As you can see in the video below, Fox is looking for a long list of supporting players to join the X-Men Universe, including characters who appear to be Bella Donna and members of her family, Gambit's mentor Jean Luc LeBeau, and members of both the Thieves' and Assassin's Guilds. However, there's one description included here which is particularly noteworthy.

That's the role of Lewis, a "Male, any ethnicity, 40s-50s. Elegant and intelligent. An appealing entrepreneur with an unexpected dark side." That sounds an awful lot like Nathaniel Essex.

There have been rumours for a while now that
Mr. Sinister could be the big bad of Gambit and while it feels like he would be better served taking on the X-Men, the villain has more than enough history with this Cajun mutant to ensure his inclusion makes sense. What do you guys think of the details in the video below? Are you excited to see Mr. Sinister on the big screen when Gambit is released?

Unexpected?

No... I'd say that dark side is very expected. (wasn't he at one point a nazi scientist?)

noahthegrand - 10/24/2017, 10:39 AM
-one time nazi scientist
-looks like a goth vampire satan
-named MR SINISTER
-has clones of himself
-has clones of other people
-NAMED MR. SINISTER
-his real name is Nathaniel Essex, which still sounds bad
-has a team of henchmen called The Nasty Boys
-sabretooth fears him
-NAMED MISTER SINISTER!!!!!

How unexpected this guy would have a Dark side!

I will be in the bag for this film if they introduce a comic accurate Rogue, recast.

@ScarletWarlock - I'd rather Rouge be saved for the sequel. Focus on flushing out Gambit and his past and defining who he is on his own before introducing the complicated mess that is his romance with Rogue.

Wasting Sinister on a spin-off movie?

Sinister belongs in an X-Men proper film, hopefully centering on his obsession with Jean Gray and Cyclops.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is not Sinister. I have to have hope Fox is smarter than that.

Seriously, please don't pull another Apocalypse with Sinister.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - It may just be an introduction, but what the [frick] else would you use Sinister on if not a project that involves Gambit? Yeah, they have their separate stories, but out of all the X-Men he's really a Gambit foe.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon -
Man, a spin-off specifically for Sinister going after Cyclops & Jean would be amazing.

You could play it like classic films about a couple running into a bad guy that eventually kidnaps the girl and the guy has to rampage to save her, only to have her defeat the villain in the end.

Just throw in Mutant powers, Sinister's evil agenda, a few cameos, and you could have a solid, emotional ride.

@Yaf - He's worked WITH Gambit more than against really I think. Now Cyclops and Mr Sinister are the ones that really have history. Either way still story to tell i guess. I'm game. If Tatum can pull off the accent.
CapnMurphy2021
CapnMurphy2021 - 10/24/2017, 1:31 PM
@WYLEEJAY - yikes! I think they should skip the goofy accent... or at least have it waaaaay more subtle than the 90's cartoon... I loved it then... but I think it'll be really hard to pull off now
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/24/2017, 1:35 PM
@Yaf - Uh....no?

Out of all the X-Men he is a Cyclops enemy. He has WAY more history with Cyclops.

Gambit would be 2nd though.

WYLEEJAY - 10/24/2017, 3:06 PM
@CapnMurphy2021 - Lol. It's the way the character has always spoke. Even in the comics. In Origins Kitsch really toned it down so maybe that's why you might think that, but I would prefer him to be more like the comic and cartoon version this time.
shadowspider9
shadowspider9 - 10/24/2017, 6:24 PM
@CorndogBurglar - It's more that he's a different type of foe for each character.
With Cyclops Sinister is a classic style villain who's goal is to dissect and analyze him, his wife, his brother to create the perfect mutant.

With Gambit he's more of a manipulator. Offering deals and then backstabbing him and using his checkered past as leverage.

CapnMurphy2021 - 10/24/2017, 6:55 PM
@WYLEEJAY - I know... I've read the comics since before he was around. It's fine in the comics because you can assign whatever voice or "hear" the perfect Cajun accent... but most actors are... ummm... not so good at accents...
if he can nail it... cool... if not... less exaggerated accent please.

@CorndogBurglar -
Considering Gambit is a clone of Mr Simister created from his own DNA mixed with Cyclops' to give him a mutant power (Sinister is actually human by birth) to use as a weapon to destroy his master at the time, Apocalypse, I think gambit has first dibs.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/25/2017, 6:09 AM
@Tasmaniac - You pulled that nonsense from X-Men: The End. An out of continuity story. That is not canon.
Tasmaniac
Tasmaniac - 10/26/2017, 5:32 AM
@CorndogBurglar - I did indeed. But there has never been any nother explanation of his origin. In continuity or out. And as Gambit has been my favorite X-Man for 23 years, I bloody well like it. So there.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/26/2017, 1:56 PM
@Tasmaniac - You can like it all you want. I liked The End also. That doesn't make it canon though.

And there's quite a bit of Gambit's origin that IS known.

We know his actually family. Or some of them anyway. We also know that Sinister made his powers controllable. Why would Sinister create a person who couldn't control their powers and allow them to live half their like that? It doesn't add up.

I'm interested in both but its still extremely surprising to me that this and Venom are actually commencing production.
Ha1frican

I actually like Channing Tatum as Gambit aesthetically but I do not believe for a second he can pull of the accent
Yaf
Yaf - 10/24/2017, 10:52 AM
@Ha1frican - You don't believe an actor can act?
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 10/24/2017, 10:54 AM
@Yaf - right because actors having a problem with accents hasnt been an issue before.

Yaf
Yaf - 10/24/2017, 10:58 AM
@Ha1frican - They changed that up on purpose. Plus, Tatum is from Louisiana. Plus, it's not like he hasn't been able to do accents before:

Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 10/24/2017, 11:02 AM
@Yaf - THey definitely did not change it on purpose, his accent goes in an out the entire movie its not like they just removed it entirely
Yaf
Yaf - 10/24/2017, 11:04 AM
@Ha1frican - Dude, they had interviews before that film talking about how they weren't going to do a Cajun accent but rather a mixed one. Look it up.
