GAMBIT Thrown Into Turmoil As Channing Tatum Looks To Exit X-MEN Spinoff
Just weeks after appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con to build up hype around the 2016 X-Men spinoff, it looks like Gambit is in serious trouble as star Channing Tatum is planning on exiting.
It was always pretty hard to believe that Gambit was actually being made, but the main reason for it happening was no doubt Channing Tatum. It was the passion for the character he expressed in interviews which actually landed him the job, and he's since appeared at Comic-Con to hype the movie and has even talked about the way he's preparing to play the fan-favourite Cajun mutant.
Well, the project is now in jeaprody as The Wrap reveals that his deal to star in the movie is close to falling apart, and insiders tell them that director Rupert Wyatt will soon be looking for a new leading man (which means that the studio won't scrap the project altogether). Fox has even been testing young actresses to star in the movie alongside Tatum - including Spectre's Lea Seydoux - but sources claim that "something is up" with his deal. The site points out that there's always a chance that this can be resolved and that the actor may stay on as a producer, but it's currently not looking good.
