Hugh Jackman Comments On Darren Aronofsky's Departure From The Wolverine!

The actor comments on Darren Aronofsky's decision to walk away from the directors chair of The Wolverine and also reveals the current status of the movie and his desire to get it made...

After the tragic natural disasters which took place in Japan and Darren Aronofsky's departure, things are not looking too good for The Wolverine. With it unclear that they'll be able to film in the country and no director, it would be easy to assume that the movie has been shelved. Not so, says Hugh Jackman.

"So now we’re out looking for a director. We were pretty much ready to go. The script is fantastic — the best we’ve ever had, which is why it attracted Darren in the first place. His personal situation precludes him from doing it now, and I feel for him. But now we need to find a director."

"We’re not going to settle. We’re going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good. Everyone is still pushing forward to getting it done."

"I can’t be eating too many more chicken breasts!"

Thanks to the guys over at Cinema Blend, we also have the following video interview with the actor, where he talks about Reel Steel and the very real possibility that he'll be playing Wolverine "for the rest of his life."

Previously expected to be released late next year, it is currently unknown when The Wolverine is set to claw his way into theaters!

Film will be rushed now, as Jackson hinted, they don't have an infinite amount of time. Either they'll have t settle on a director, or they'll have to take short cuts to speed up the production.

Not a good start.

I think Takashi Miike should direct this! He is really the perfect person for the job.

@The4thWall, I think he may be too extreme for this movie, but it does make sense to find a good Japanese director who can speak English.

If Jackman was a foot shorter and 3 times as hairy, he'd be the PERFECT Wolverine jk:)

Aronofsky was the only reason I had any interest in this film. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm tired of walking out of an X-Men film disappointed. Though it was only 2 (X3, Origins), that's too many for me. The X-Men should NEVER be a disappointment!

darren aronofsky was the reason i was giving this movie a chance.

takashi miike would be a good choice, but i can't see that happening.

At this point we just want a good wolverine film. Notice I said good not great. I mean after Origins our expectations are dirt low.

Why doesn't Jackman just direct it himself? If everyone's ready & they just need the director. I mean he's done 4 other X-Men films so he should already know the ropes as how to direct the character in this universe.

I want the correct costume. Maybe not as yellow, but he must have a mask this time. Beings that he's gonna be in Japan perhaps he could have some sort of cool Samurai-like helmet that looks like the comics mask?

I say get Ed Zwick to direct or even Mel Gibson!

If Darren walked away from Wolverine because of the whole family thing then I think he's an idiot, a very talented idiot. He is an amazing director who brings his actors to the edge, and spills greatness out of them for all the world to see. That being said, a director's job is to be on location for various lengths of time away from family and home. Any director knows the sacrifice involved to get a film to the screen. I however think that this whole family thing was a cover up for Fox sticking their two cents into the direction and tone of Darren's vision of the film. I wish that someone would have the balls to step up and inform Fox that Wolverine is not some cookie cutter hero for kids, nor is he meant to be watered down for public consumption. The problem here is that Fox started this whole PG version of Wolverine with X-1 and like most things in life the shit runs downhill. How f**king wrong is it when we have a mature Wolverine game that kids are playing but we can't get that version on screen. The blame starts with Fox and if Darren did walk away because of his family then he should just get a 9-5 job so he can be with his family all he wants without having to sacrifice his time with the profession he f**king chose!!!!!!!!!!!

@thatiscrazy Jackman is a producer on these too now so he ain't goin' nowhere.

Mel Gibson in his prime would have been awesome as Wolverine. Now he should be it's director! He has a relationship with the Donners and although it's not his style of movie it could bring him back to popularity.

@ The4thWall...THAT IS A GREAT IDEA AND I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT!!! Beat Takashi would be a perfect director for this!!! Him or Park Wook (spelling?), the dude that made "Old Boy!!!" or David Lynch...imagine the "Elephant Man" style but eith Wolverine....I AM NOT AN ANIMAL!!!!! @ GAMBIT89 I disagree...i like the hair better in WOrigins...his hair is has too much gel and moose in the trilogy..he needs to look more feral and messy and less manicured...he looks too pretty sometimes

All the great directors were at one time unknown and needed a breakout film to put them on the map. Give it a chance, you never know who is out there on the verge of greatness.
