When I first saw the original X-Men movie, I was maybe four years old. It was a visceral experience at the time. Never had I seen the X-Men represented in such a visceral and real fashion. Yes, I had the X-Men: Evolution television series. Cyclops was my favorite character. I never had strong feelings for Wolverine one way. Then I saw this movie. That opening scene where Magneto is a child at the concentration camp will forever be ingrained in my memory. It was my first experience with anything related to World War Two, which I would learn about in reality two-three years later in Grade Two. I love this movie. It hasn't aged well, but as I've grown, so has the series.
