After Dafne Keen's acclaimed performance as Laura/X-23 in 2017's Logan, it was generally assumed that the young actress would get the opportunity to reprise the role down the line. Of course, that was before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox's assets in last year's highly publicised takeover.
Keen recently confirmed that there were indeed tentative plans in place for an X-23 spinoff before the acquisition, but said she hasn't spoken to anyone about it since. However, it seems the recent news that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a third Deadpool movie has given the His Dark Materials star hope that we could see the clawed mutant make the jump to the MCU.
"I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high in case it doesn't happen, but I really do hope it does because I loved playing Laura," Keen told ComicBook.com about a potential return to the role. "She holds a very special place in my heart and she's an incredible character. And to be fair, the whole Deadpool 3 situation really, really made me happy because, obviously when Disney bought Fox, I suspected they weren't going to do any more R-rated films, but then greenlighting Deadpool is a great sign for other R-rated movies."
This might well be true, but an R-rating may not be the only obstacle Keen faces.
Marvel Studios is expected to reboot the X-Men and all associated characters at some point over the next couple of years, so even if they do eventually reintroduce X-23, it would most likely be with a new actress in the role. That said, if Marvel was planning to bring in any previously established characters from the Fox era, a Deadpool movie would be the perfect place to do it.
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Dafne Keen back as X-23 in the MCU?
