One of the most successful movie franchises is Fox's X men movies. Every two or three years there is a new release and half the time, the movie is quite good. Soon, "the Wolverine" is due to begin filming. A film which is based upon the 1980's mini series "Wolverine" by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont. But is this a good move?
First off, anyone who has read this graphic novel will know how good it is. When this was written Wolverine was still quite mysterious, not much was known about his past and he was considered an underdog when entering a fight. Hugh Jackman has always expressed his interest to heavily adapt this graphic novel to a feature film. The only problem that I can foresee studios like Fox having is that, apart from Wolverine, there are no x men in the story. Now everybody knows that x men origins tried to include as many cameos as possible but I'm pretty sure Fox would of learned their lesson by now.
The next problem is one that some people have and others don't. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Now I like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. He is fully commited to the role and always acknowlegdes Wolverine as the role which helped his career. Plus his portrayal of Logan is good, it brings fear, uncertainty and you like him enough not to hate him. However others say that Jackman is too good looking for the role and he is too tall to fully capture the essence of Wolvie, I can see where they are coming from. Jackman may be one of the best looking men in the world but that doesn't change the fact that people in make up could just make him look a little more gritty than usual. As for the age, I don't care. the dude's in amazing shape and his "wrinkles" just add a bit more to the fact that Wolverine has been around in half a century. Finally his height can easily be avoided by using clever camera shots that were also used in X1.
Lastly, I must admit when Darren Aronofsky left I was dissapointed but the feedback from the quality of the script has been amazing. The only problem I have is that it is being rewritten. If the script was so perfect, why rewrite it, I can only think that new director James Mangold wanted to change some details to help shooting the film. Overall, I am quite excited about the release of this film and looking forward to how it turns out.
As always comments are much apprieciated
