When Hugh Jackman talked with MovieFone, he brought up the original concept for The Wolverine with Darren Aronofsky in the director's chair, which would have apparently been pretty different than James Mangold's version. "Maybe I'll convince him to do a "Wolverine" movie at some point," he said. "We had a long discussion, Darren and I, as did Jim and I, about making "The Wolverine" R-rated." He elaborated on the possibility of an R rated Wolverine film, since it is very likely that Fox wouldn't approve of the idea of making a Wolverine movie restricted. "They were open to it, actually," he reveals. He goes on to say that one of the reasons the film wasn't rated R was because he didn't want to disapoint the children he meets everyday. "It didn't scare them off, as long as we have a good reason for it. I was the one to call it off. In a way, I would love to do it -- if there was ever a character that would necessitate an R-rated version. But I'm the one who, every day of my life, meets 12, 13, 14-year-olds. I see in their eyes how I used to feel about Indiana Jones. So for me to say, 'You know what, this next movie, it's not for you' -- I would have to have a really good reason for it." He continues to talk about how they worked on the original film while not wanting to change too much of it just to avoid the R. "So we made the movie without a rating in mind, and the first cut, let me tell you, we had trouble. It was definitely R-rated. So in the end, we just snuck on the side of it, but that's why we released the unrated cut on Blu-ray." Even though many fans would love to see an R rated Wolverine film, Fox may not be up for it, since it would seriously affect it's Box Office gross. However, it is possible that Fox is building up to it either in 2017's Wolverine film or even another Wolverine movie. Old Man Logan, perhaps? Jackman talked a little bit more about an early discussion during the production of the of the film between him and Aronofsky. "But there was one thing that he said to me that I can remember. He said to me, "I don't think you've just got to be a little bit bigger. I think you've got to be fifty pounds bigger... and muscle-only." He had a really cool idea about scars. He said, "I want to see him completely scarred. I know he heals but if you think about it, we have a scar, we have a scar for life. It doesn't really get better. It might reduce over your lifetime but it also stays there." Do you think an R rated Wolverine film is a good idea? Sound off below.
