POLL: What Did You Think Of THE WOLVERINE?

POLL: What Did You Think Of THE WOLVERINE?

Is Hugh Jackman still the best there is at what he does? Did director James Mangold manage to wash away the bad taste left by X-Men Origins: Wolverine? We were pretty impressed by The Wolverine here on CBM, but what did you guys make of it?

The Wolverine has gone down pretty well with most critics and seems to be a hit with fans as it is currently doing solid box office too. Personally I really enjoyed it (you can read my 4 star review HERE) but -- especially after a second viewing -- felt a sloppy finale really let it down. This appears to be the general critical consensus; but is it among you CBMers? Vote below and have your say in the usual place -- and feel free to post SPOILERS, as we'll assume if you're on this thread you've seen the movie.

i was surprised that they didn't have Wolverine fight the ninjas more but I did like that they went more for story than action.

Yes because having the hero win every battle easily is dramatic and tense as Hell. Also, when did he get his ass kicked? By a giant [frick]ing adamantium robot..ok! By about a hundred ninja arrows..ok! He beat teh crap out of everyone else he faced.

Anyway, you reminded me of another fanboy logic staple..I've posted the first 6 to Twitter and this will be no. 7:)

So I've heard people say they completely ignore XMO: WOLVERINE but they don't! Near the end we hear Kayla tell Logan she love shim while he's unconscious.

This movie rocked. Loved all three cbm's so far, for different reasons. Every one had a completly different feel, and epic in its own right. Can't wait for the rest.

All those arrows sticking out of Logan's back, should have changed his name from The Wolverine to The Pin Cushion.

I liked it! very enjoyable, last 15 minutes were a little under par compared to the rest of the movie but still enjoyable. Pretty graphic for pg-13 too!

Where was the spidey symbol??

4 out of 5 star, a very good film! I really enjoyed the story and after all the big summer movies this one had a smaller, more personal feel to it.

It 3 stars. I frankly enjoyed it more than IM3 and MOS solely due to the fact that I didn't have my hopes up for it and it turned out much better than origins. MOS and Im3 weren't very good.

The Spidey symbol is on the cap of a Japanese dude, on the background when Viper threatens Harada. Pretty cool, though I suppose it's just an extra's doing, just like the Robin symbol in The Dark Knight Rises!

I thought The Wolverine was good. Hugh Jackman is great as Logan, the scenes with Jean were a great way to let you know his state of mind at this point. Viper was a bit one dimensional, but she served her purpose. Will Yun Lee was good but not as strong a character as in the comics version. Fight scenes were great, movie bogged down a little in the middle and I figured out the Silver Samurai twist halfway through the film. Still all in all The Wolverine did make me feel some emotions and kept me thinking.

Best cbm's so far this year

1 Man Of Steel
2 The Wolverine
3 IM 3

Anyway, best CBM of 2013...if not for that third act! I greatly despise Viper as a character, and I believe the movie would do just fine, if she was never a part of it. Shame, because (Spoiler) Shingen, Yashida, and Harada - I like the former the most, especially - are all cool, and I suppose they'd do even better, if more screen time was given to 'em - all of which, I suppose, was "stolen" by Viper instead. But everything else was so smooth, so I'll settle with "Very Good." Oh, Mariko is stunning, and Yukio > Black Widow. :)

I only rate out of 10 stars, but 8/10 is equivalent to 4/5.

Loved the movie. Best CBM of the summer and (in my opinion) best X Film. But the finale was sloppy and average at best. The SS "twist" was acceptable. The whole bone claw thing is interesting and I can't wait to see how that affects DOFP. Highlights of the movie were: 1. Logan grabbing the bug of his heart and the fight that follows it. 3. When SS takes the healing from him causing him to get older in appearance. 3. Funeral Fight.
The scenes with Logan and Mariko felt really slow however. Good movie.

Good point. I distinctly remember Logan standing on a vehicle and using his claws to spark something to light his cigar.

Yeah, if there's anything fatal that the movie's done, it must be cementing both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X3's place in the series' canon...but since they did a damn good job in showing the consequences to the character - and it's just not fair to disrespect all those outings by simply counting them out, after all - I really wouldn't complain much!
Abary
Abary - 7/28/2013, 7:00 AM
And I realized something while watching it.....

Wolverine was impaled by swords and arrows and stuff so many, many, many times... yet every time it supposedly goes in between bones and out the other side? If it hit Adamantium bone the sword should just snap. We're expected to believe it never hit bone at all, dispite the amount of times he something went through him?

Best CBM of the year by far, engaging story and good side characters, didn't think I would like Yukio that much, Jackman nailed it. The cinematography in this movie was great.

Fox are finally upping their game, two high quality CBM's back to back. I'm really anticipating DOFP, looks good from what i've seen so far.

People also better stop bitching about an R-rated Wolverine film from now on, for a 12A movie, this was extremely violent and pretty much R rated without the guts and gore. Wolverine was killing and gutting things left, right and center. There's also going to be an R-Rated dvd cut.

First Class is still the best movie in the X-MEN series, this could have been if not for the last 25 minutes(though I did enjoy them, the Yashida/Wolverine fight had me on edge). Furthermore Hawkeye is a poor mans Harada and Widow is a poor mans Yukio.

Best CBM of the year. Haven't seen anybody mention this that in the scene in the apartment with the guy in his red underwear there is a Mickey Mouse silhouette statue distinctly behind Yukio. They should it twice.

IMO this is the best Marvel solo film since Spider-Man 2.

People complain too much fights in the third act but it wasn't that much AND THIS IS COMING FROM A HUGE STAR WARS FAN!!!! ROTJ had Han & Ewoks vs Stormtroppers on Endor, Lando and a space fight, and Luke and Vader in the Death Star ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!!

Great film.

@ABARy

Bones are rounded and somewhat small. The thickest bone in your body is your femur, and that is about as wide as a golf ball.

Even if they struck bone, they'd be glancing blows off the bevels and still project out the other side. Only if it's an exact strike in the dead center of the bone would it cause momentum to reverse, causing it to either shatter or bounce back out.

So it's not so unbelievable. Plus it's a movie.

Yea Yukio was [frick]ing badass. Better than Black Widow & hell I'll even say Anne's Catwoman.

The one thing I loved they added was they made Mariko able to put up a fight. In the book she couldn't but in the film she was a knife expert and she was able to defeat guys when it was 1 on 1 but she couldn't when she was overpowered.

Nice little extra.

Iron Man 2 was dogshit.

Iron Man was good but I always felt that it just wasnt great.

Cap was ok. Just ok.

I really hope Yukio is in more X-Men films with Wolverine.

Out of all the supporting casts for the 3 CBMs this summer, she was the one who stole the show.
