LOST Actor Josh Holloway Reveals That He Was Originally Cast As Gambit In X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE
Though Taylor Kitsch ultimately wound up landing the role, former Lost alum Josh Holloway has revealed that he was originally cast as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009. More past the jump...
Former Lost and current Colony star Josh Holloway has long been a fan-favorite for the role of Gambit, and as it turns out, he very nearly played the card-flinging mutant in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
During an interview with Digital Spy, Holloway reveals that he was actually cast as Remy LeBeau before being replaced by Taylor Kitsch when someone with a lot of stroke at 20th Century Fox decided that they wanted to go with a younger actor.
“I actually screen-tested with Hugh Jackman. It was amazing – they said, ‘You’re it, you’re the guy, you’re Gambit!’ and they shook my hand. Then [the studio head] said, ‘I want someone really young, like that kid in High School Musical!’, so there I went.”
There's no doubt that Holloway would have brought the requisite swagger to the role of Gambit, but there is one area in which he may have floundered a little. “I’m terrible at the Cajun accent,” he admitted. “I wish I could [do it].”
There's now a solo Gambit film in the works with Channing Tatum in the lead. That's currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 7, 2019.
What do you guys think? Would you have preferred to see Holloway play the character back in the day? How about now? Sound off in the usual place.
