I decided to go see the movie X-men Origins with the average persons knowledge of the character. Like everyone else, I saw the old cartoons, the x-men movies, and a few comics here and there. But nothing for me to say "this isnt right, or that should have been like that." I decided to go to the movie yesterday and I will have to say the movie was good but not great.
From right off of the bat the opening sequence put a bad taste in my mouth. The beginning sequence of all the wars wolverine and sabertooth were in was nice but the "freeze-frame actor name display" reminded me of blade trinity which i recall being a terrible movie. So first 5 minutes into the movie im already a little disapointed.
The acting in this movie was great to me. I felt sabertooth was displayed amazingly and of course hugh did a fantastic job. ryan reynolds was a perfect deadpool but i wish he had more screne time. This movie introduced you to a lot of characters but it felt like all the ones that we would like or loved got short screened and everyone else had longer parts. I personally didn't give two flyin f's the blob. Was nice to see him i suppose but he really had any perpose in the movie to me. He blew up a tank and well.. thanks for your time blob.
The first mission we see this special mutant team on, wolverine does nothing. He sits and looks pretty. Deadpools battle of the guards was pretty amazing personally. Everytime deadpool would talk, made me laugh.
I kept getting this feeling that wolverine wasnt "wolverine". What I mean by that is wolverine is an animal a bad-ass if you will. I didn't like seeing him be so soft and patient with everyone. When he confronts the blob for example, to get information of sabertooth and an island. The wolverine I know wouldn't put up with blob being pissy and put on boxing gloves to get the info. He would walk up to him and say "hey bub either you tell me or i'm going to start carvin out the answer". Thats the wolverine I know. I wanted to see things like when wolverine gets hit and draws blood, he likes it and just gets more into the fight. thats just me though. I wanted to see the wild animal, not your common house dog.
Moving on in the movie. When wolverine bonds to his adamantium I expected him to be go nuts like he did but in a confused rage. Not in a controlled state. I was under the impression he freaked out when he had his new claws and more or less "escaped" from the facility not walk out. I enjoyed the way they portrayed it in x-men 2 i suppose.
The fight with gambit was alright but it was missing something. I felt like there wasn't enough creativity in their battle. I wanted to see gambit getting beat around not knowing what he was dealing with, then adapting charging up anything and everything he could find to fling at wolverine. But all i got was a broken staff and a no-look back punch to knock him out.
The humor in this movie was perfect. I thought it was funny when it had to be and serious when it had to be. I think I saw wolverine yell and scream too many times though. He yells as a kid, in a dream, when his gf dies, when he gets his new claws, everytime he runs at sabertooth. You think his voice would be hoarse after all that yelling but i guess that healed too. :)
The battles with sabertooth were everything i hoped for. good creativity and you could feel the hatred for sabertooth from wolverine. In x-2 you see all the tactics wolverine has learned through his time and I felt like wolverine was just running trying to claw things with no fighting style or military insight. Maybe it was due to his rage but who knows.
I'm no expert so I never really knew why deadpool wore the mask. So him being weapon 11 was so-so. The last battle was pretty good. But the only surprising point in the movie was sabertooth coming to logans aid. All-in all I liked this movie but I think it was hyped up a little too much. Theres wasnt enough character depth and Wolverine wasnt the animal I wanted to see in him.
We'll this is my first movie reveiw ill just say right off the bat, sorry its not too good. But this is just what I thought of the movie. Thanks for taking the time to read.
