X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Big Let Down

Earlier today i went to an opening day showing of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Personally, I was majorly let down. After seeing trailers, teasers and previews I was pretty weary about how it would do as a comic book movie, my suspicions were correct. As an action movie it was decent, as a comic book movie, it was super disappointing.

First thing first, when I watch a comic book movie for the first time, I compare the story to the source material, as I'm sure most of you do. Bits and pieces of the story were accurate to the comics, but it seemed like they tried to hard make it "Hollywood". Also, several characters were changed for the movie. For instance, Deadpool, as far as I know, was never made into weapon XI and given a whole slew of powers. For me, "Deadpool" in the movie isn't really Deadpool at all. In the beginning of the movie, he is pretty accurate, wise cracking and kick-ass, but after his initial appearance he fails to even resemble Deadpool. Another minor inconsistency was Emma Frost. They didn't even touch on her telepathic abilities, which was her initial power. There are lots of other examples of the inaccurate story line which i won't get into.

The next, and probably biggest, thing for me was the portrayal of Gambit. Where do i start? I feel that Taylor Kitsch gave a disturbingly inaccurate performance. His cajun accent, which is not very good to begin with, fades in and out during the movie, which is essential for Gambit. Also, they make him pretty lame compared to how awesome he actually is. Gambit is a fan favorite and since the first X-men movie fans have been anxiously awaiting his movie debut and this is how they bring him in?!?

I had heard previously that there was going to be a secret ending and i made sure to stay and watch it. I found out that there are multiple endings, but the one i saw was just pointless. It was basically Wolverine sitting at a bar in Japan. Nothing important or even interesting about it. Yeah, I guess this could be saying that the sequel will be set in Japan, but that's not the sort of thing that should be revealed in a secret ending. I was upset that i sat through 10 minutes of credits for this.

Just one more quick comment. I wasn't a fan of Cyclops in the X-men trilogy. He was made out to be super lame, never showed good leadership and he was always getting the crap kicked out of him, but the version in this movie was actually surprisingly good. Granted, he is only a teen, he shows his leadership abilities and is portrayed well, for the little bit he is in the movie.

From what i gathered, Marvel studios will be making all the Marvel movies from here on out (with the exception of X-men and Spiderman). Ironman and Hulk were amazing and i hope that they continue to make great comic book movies. I just want to put X-men origins behind me and wait for Ironman 2, Thor, Captain America and the Avengers (PUMPED!!!).

I too went to opening day with a chip on my shoulder. Gotta say, first have of the film really compensated my bad attitude walking in. However, the entire second half of the movie was horrifically, just plain BAD. Several scenes of CGI were only slightly better than T.V. PowerRangers movie. When James Howlette is in the bathroom of the elderly couples home and is playing with his adamantium claws, they look like theyre half floating in from of his hands...and they're almost a plastic shade of grey.

Plus, the escape from stryker's lab and diving into the waterfall...not only did it look like a video game, it was also just terrible scene, and I felt a little bit embarassed for Fox studios.

Not only did they completely dismantle DeadPool, the just used his names and Katanas. Come on people, he had swords coming out of his wrists!!!!

The fight scene between DeadPool and Wolverine wasn't even good, it's like they just got tired of making the movie by the time they got to that part.

by the way, Huey, not only was Deadpool NOT Weapon XI, there never actually was a Weapon XI Character...period.

The simple thing is that a comic book movie is just that, a movie from an adaptation of a BOOK.

Hollywood has been trying to make the jump from book to the bigscreen since forever and it will never come out right (although Lotr did get some justice), but no matter what, there is just not enough time or money to make a movie exactly like how a book (or comic book) is read.

We can't go into these movies thinking it's gonna be right out of the comics, cause it won't. They not only have to adapt it to a shorter time, but they have to make sure it makes sense to NON-comic readers too (this is the key since I'd say more than half that will pay to see this movie hasn't picked up a comic book).

Yes, They should have easily played the romance bigger between Kayla and Logan, better fight scenes, and honestly even more scenes of logan and creed with the weapon x group, wade wilson (who isn't suppose to be deadpool yet so just drop that subject), and of course gambit, but a lot of the crap they're showing (or not showing) could lead up to another movie.

I thought this movie could of been so so so much better. I thought the adamantium bullets were freaking gay as hell. The Professor X scene looked awful. My brother also made a point about Professor X walking that in the comics the time that Professor X recruited Cyclops he was already crippled. The scene with Wolverine in the bathroom was terrible the claws look painted on the screen. The killing off of Agent Zero, Deadpool, Blob were stupid. Plus Gambit's accent was terrible plus they make him too old to be in with the X-men team in the present time. The movie needs more blood. The only blood in the movie turned out to be fake blood. Plus how the hell did Wolverine not know that Silver Fox's death was fake he could smell the blood. Plus in the woods there was a wolverine head in the forest left by Sabertooth. Before Wolverine even took a codename. !!! Ryan Reynolds was ok as Deadpool but they cut his screen time down to almost nothing. Seriously Will.I.AM had more screen time than Reynolds did. This movie was just ok for me. I didn't like how all the characters were brought in in the background none of them actually did anything important.

actually I think it was the head of a bear, a reference to Frank Millers Weapon X book in which Wolverine cuts the head of a bear while being tested by weapon x

Actually I liked the movie and thought the only big fail part was Professor X showing up unexpected like Jesus in a helicopter and all the little mutants clustering around him. :P
I'd have liked it if there had been a heads up that he would be involved. Less CGI would have been better yeah.

The Weapon XI isn't necessarily Wade, its a clone.
The second Deadpool ending has an un-damaged Wade Picking the head up, showing that there are apparently 2 of him. Also XI was fitted out with lots of powers, maybe even Agent 0's powers, so he didn't have to fight like un-enhanced Wade Wilson.

2 wilsons sounds like an origin for T-Ray to me ... And the clone could lose its extra powers easy the way Wilson's healing factor works...

Hey you can't get mad cause they crazy about their comic book heroes. They spend thousands of dollars to get the original comics. Hollywood could care less if they can't get the regular crowd but they depend on loyal comic book fans to be at their movies. If they keep making bad movies and the loyal comic book people don't hype them up. They'll lose their whole audience. Look at the first Hulk, Batman, ect... Make the story right or at least get a well known(who knows how to make a good movie-hint hint Jerry Brukheimer) director. At least when Peter Jackson strayed from the story he still made an excellent film.

Hey I also wanna make this point. Thats how Dark Knight made so much money. One, the loyal comic book fans. Two, the tragic death of Heath Ledger. Three the well act part of Heath playing the Joker. Mark my words not another film with the Dark Knight title or Batman title will ever make that much money.
