X-MEN: Alexandra Shipp "Not Interested" In MCU Return; James McAvoy Is "Not Saying Anything"

Alexandra Shipp plated Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, but it doesn't sound like the Barbie actress has much interest in returning as the mutant hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

Alexandra Shipp made her debut as Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, before returning as the fan-favourite mutant hero in what would turn out to be the final X-Men movie of the 20th Century Fox era before the Disney/Marvel takeover, Dark Phoenix.

Shipp did a pretty good job with what she had to work with, which, by the actress' own admission, wasn't very much.

“I would and I wouldn’t," Shipp replied when asked if she'd like to play Storm again in a 2019 interview. "Because Storm barely has anything to say as it is. I don’t know about [the other actors] but like we never talk. So it would be really nice if we weren’t piled into yet another jam-packed cast, in which you only see me in the back of the shot like f*cking sasquatch.”

Though we're still waiting for an official announcement, Marvel Studios is currently planning an X-Men reboot, but we have seen actors from the previous movies show up in the MCU. Patrick Stewart appeared as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kelsey Grammar voiced a CGI Beast in The Marvels, and Hugh Jackman is set to return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Though the studio may ultimately recast these roles, the door is clearly open for actors from the earlier films to return as their respective characters - even if it is just for a one-off cameo.

So, does Shipp still feel the same about Storm, or would she now consider suiting up as the powerful weather-manipulator again?

"Not interested," the Barbie actress tells ET. "I think there are other women who can take on that role and really kill it."

The site asked James McAvoy, who played the younger Professor X from First Class on, the same question, but he seemed a little more hesitant to rule anything out.

"Anything I say will get me in trouble. I've had no contact with them. If they want me to come back, they need to talk to me and need a good script. I'm not saying anything"

At this point, it's probably safe to say that most fans would prefer to see new actors in all of these roles, which will most likely happen eventually.

Rumor has it that Deadpool 3 will at least partially lay the groundwork for the elusive X-Men reboot, so hopefully we'll have a better idea of what Marvel has planned for the mutants after July 26.
