Yeah it's a movie, you say having that tech in the 70's isn't real, but what about a huge hologram Danger Room in 2006?

ALSO,
Why were the Sentinel's just killing the X-Men? If they wanted to kill them all why did they keep some in those concentration camps? If they wanted to gain power, surely experimenting on and gaining the powers of the group of people who had managed to evade them so long would be interesting for them.

Okay. I'll say what has to be said (and I'm NOT hating either).

I'm SURE it will be cool and all . . .
But could the production designer(s) put their egos aside and have made them look at least a LITTLE like the comic?
Especially since we KNOW the average movie goer doesn't give a frock what they look like, they could have pleased everyone with a little more authenticity.

Your damn right.
Fvcking designers should realize these properties are based of existing characters & concepts that come from a source (comics) that have established looks & functions.

Sorry but the retro Sentinals look cheap & weak,the future Sentinals look alien-like & shoot blasts from the face/head. Crap.
A design more akin to the giant Sentinals from comics with weapons from hands/eyes are preferred.
You may disagree...You have poor taste & shit on what made it great to begin with.

@ Bender. Trask was a genius. When you combine that with the fact that "its just a movie", that's the end result. As far as Magneto controlling the 70's sentinels, the movie explained that Trask specifically engineered the sentinels without any metal components, hinting that no mutant with metal manipulating capabilities could control them in any aspect.

@KrazyForKomix

I feel like the designers already did that with the 70's sentinels. They look pretty damn close to the comic book version honestly. Not even Marvel Studios rips everything right off the comic book page as far as designs go. I may be in the minority, but I even thought the future sentinels were actually pretty creative designs after I found out they're based on Mystique's DNA

Not bashing the film however..
Take it for what it is but if those Sentinals were not called that & appeared,you would not recognize them as Sentinals.

The comic ones have a very cool & recognizable look to them that can be tweaked so that you could see them anywhere & instantly think: Holy Crap..That's a Sentinal!
The movie ones were threatening but the designers should have been more respectful & gave us REAL Sentinals.

@Bat

I completely agree. Not only that, but there is a limit to comic accuracy when it comes to live action. I don't see how one could complain about the book sentinels not being represented, when those 70's sentinels sure do look pretty inspired. The key word here is inspired. Inspiration from the source material is what drives every single comic book movie ever to be made

I do like the look of the future Sentinels.

Disagree. That look is fine for an initial prototype Sentinel.

@BatManiac

You reason that everything from the comics is not automatically great,fair enough.
That said,when you try & adapt,even loosely adapt something from a book/comic/etc.
at least try & stay close to the source or just make an entire new thing..why change major things?

Do it right or not at all.

sameoldthing - 5/30/2014, 6:41 AM
Those 70's Sentinals were walking garbage cans.
Thin & pathetic...not nearly towering behemoth mutant killing machines of mass destruction.
Open your eyes.

Good movie..just sayin.

I will chime in with saying I can understand him manipulating the metal over their bodies to control their frame but he isn't able to power them up and make them fire off the rounds and such that they were doing. That would involve controlling their circuitry and such and he doesn't have the power to do that lol. I am in the minority here too but the future Sentinels did have a cool design to them, not just the head blasts but also taking forms with their arms and using the powers of other mutants although it didn't make sense that they were able to acquire Darwin's power when he was already dead but was interesting seeing one turn to diamond form (Emma Frost) and the other with Lady Deathstrike claws.

It's INCREDIBLY easy to say that "inspiration" was drawn from the comic-source. That Catwoman movie drew "inspiration" from the fantasy of the comic.

Look NO ONE is asking for EXACT, precision replication of all of the visuals from the artist pen in the printed funny books. And yes, those future Sentinels are "actually pretty creative designs" based on Mystiques DNA. Don't really care. Bottom line is that they could, if they so desired, make the Sentinels MORE (not exactly), but MORE like the source. It would have ALSO shown massive amounts of creativity to make it work.

Interesting how some of the same people who complain about the sentinels not looking like the comics had no problem with how Marvel Studios was able to deviate from comic book characters costumes and appearances.

@Krazy

I guess it comes down to preference. The 70's sentinels were enough for me when it comes to adapting the source material. I appreciated and enjoyed Singer's version of future sentinels, more so than I would've bigger versions of the 70's sentinels. The visual contrast is nice, especially to the general movie going audience. Not to mention the comic book versions of sentinels are not nearly as creepy and threatening as Singer's versions. I'd even hope to see the future sentinels we got in a x-men book at some point
KrazyForKomix

Batmaniac.
Understood.
Because some production designer drew them on a computer, "they're still Sentinels."
Valid.
I don't agree, but a valid point.
And Galactus is a cloud of sparkly cosmic debris because that's how it was in the movie.

But still, I'll g0 and enjoy the movie.
But damn it, I better not see those "Sentinels" make an appearance in the comics.
Dirty, ugly tail wagging the dog.

Sentinels have come in all shapes and sizes, throughout the years. So when you say "like the comic" You should be well versed in every variation.

I suppose your argument is valid,the end result seems to please most & I don't hate the look but had hoped for a closer representation. That top pic has a very cool looking possible future Sentinal,but they went another way.

@SuperDude
Whoa,that Last Stand crap weren't even trying..that head was a joke. Don't mention that insult.
Since they have powers that would have altered look from comics I guess that's how they can get away with it.

It's a good movie & they went all over the place,much different than the comic story.
It's truly a "loose adaptation"...as most films end up as.

@Bender, because he's really fukcing smart & because he can in the comics which is what this movie is based on. And yes actually, Mags is an engineering genius. If you're unfamiliar with the source material, he's an unparalleled genius in various fields.

The second sentinel concept looks beast. All in all they did a fantastic job with the sentinels. The reasoning for the future versions of them made sense, and fit well with the overall story and flow of the film. It would have been cool if they kept the overall design / shape of the future sentinels bodies of the future more like the 90's cartoon version, but the past sentinels satisfied that version enough for me. Blink was one of the coolest mutants in the film, and I hope we get to see more of her and this version of Quicksilver. I didn't think this version of Quicksilver was going to be good at all, and I was so wrong about that one. The actor for Quicksilver's role did an awesome job and he didn't feel out of place at all. I really love how they showed off his mutant speed. If Flash is ever brought to the big screen DC needs to take notes on this and do something different or it will seem like a complete rip off. This will be difficult I think seeing how Flash is supposed to be the fastest man alive. Great concept designs overall.

Riiiii-i-i-i-i-ght.

You couldn't possibly figure to what we talking about.
And Superman as worn many costumes and even come in matching red and blue twins versions.
But when someone says, "I wish his costume were more like the comic," odds are, he's NOT talking about the NEW 52 version. He MIGHT be . . . but unlikely.
He's probably, as EVERYONE would realize, talking about a "Classic" version of the costume.

But good on you for pointing out my gross error.

I would be referring to a Sentinel (or Sentinels) as envisioned by Kirby, Paul Smith, Andy Kubert, Jim lee, and of course John Byrne.

From what I've seen, the future sentinels look like a loose adaptation of Nimrod. And they're ridiculously over-powered, and terrifying. Sounds like sentinels to me.
TheRationalNerd
TheRationalNerd - 5/30/2014, 7:22 AM
I was just REALLY hoping to see a surprise appearance by Master Mold. Like all of the sentinels combining together to form him or something would've been pretty dope. They were actually said to have the ability to combine but we didn't see that within the film nor did we see them capable of shrinking and increasing in height.

In the Apocalypse story arc the sentinels were actually aiding the mutants when they were facing off against Apocalypse's army and etc., there were even pics I can recall of Wolverine riding on top of a Sentinel before attacking. *Spoiler* seeing that Bolivar Trask was saved from the assassination *End Spoiler* perhaps it's possible we'll see 1980's sentinels being created once again to help save humanity from the forces of Apocalypse?

Colossus was a complete non factor against the future sentinels. Was a complete shame to see how he went down. I hope Age of Apocalypse adds Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the cast with Storm, Jean, Beast and Cyclops while making Wolverine, Gambit, Mystique and Angel the four horsemen.

The major mistake of the future Sentinels is the 'Face Blast'.
Had no one...not a single soul on the production team seen THOR?
The Destroyer does that idiots. So that seemed uninspired. Try harder people.

That too! When I thought about that when the pics were first released in the Empire magazine I felt at ease. However I don't recall seeing one that had the purple gill ope wing on it's side. That one looked a bit different from the ones we saw in the film.

Oh boohoo. They didn't look like a design that was created 30 years ago? The Sentinels didn't have abs and metal biceps for no reason? Get over it. Things change. What was cool and original 30 years ago is lame today. Get your heads out of your stupid coloring books and try thinking for yourselves for once.

No I couldn't figure it out, because most people that cry source accurate, wouldn't know the source if it bit them on the ass. So the best way to go is to be specific. Especially when you are talking comics were every time you switch creative teams, they put their own spin on it(just like the creative teams for the movie). Especially when there have been hundreds of different variations in the source.

I would love for in xmen Apocalypse

For apocalypse to get a hold of a child Angel since in the timeline he's a kid
And for apocalypse to genetically engineer him to become a adult Archangel

It could work
