Jane Goldman Says She Is "100% On Board" An X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Sequel..Should Vaughn Return To Direct

Mathew Vaughn's frequent collaborator tells MTV that she is more than happy to work on the script for the second First Class movie, but that will depend on whether the director returns himself..

We have heard quite a bit from Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and James McAvoy (Professor X) on where they would like to see their characters go in a sequel to X-Men: First Class, but we were never sure if a sequel would even happen until Fox hired Simon Kinberg to write the script. So now it looks as if we will get to see if their ideas will match up to whatever story is produced. But what of the writing/directing team that were such a large part of the firt movie's success? Well speaking to MTV Jane Goldman comments on both actors ideas for their characters, and reveals that she would be happy to work on (we assume re-writes on Kinberg's original draft) the script, but only if Vaughn should return too..

"James and Michael brought so much to them that I think it's entirely natural to be talking about where those characters would go next. It was inherent in their stories and their arcs. There are so many interesting places to go."

"In terms of what's going on with that, again from my point of view, it's down to what Matthew [Vaughn] decides to do. If he decides he wants to direct the next one and if he wants me on board, I'm 100 percent there."

And we likely won't know if Vaughn is on board until Kinberg delivers that script. So would you guys like to see Vaughn and Goldman return? Or would you rather a new team get a shot at bringing the X-Men to life?

definately not fake. she dated jonathan ross when we was really young (late teens) and they were big even then. unless you're suggesting she had a boob job in her teens. well, it's possible but very unlikely

Oh yay. Can we please get another "re-invention" of the X-Men and First Class movie without the actual First Class? Pretty please? I can't believe I am going to say this, but reboot or GTFO.

While Magneto was the best part of First Class, I am tired of him being the villain all the time. There are so many worthy villains in the X-Men universe. Let's get the X-Men fighting someone else for a change. I know Shaw was a villain in First Class (didn't care for him at all), but I still saw Magneto as the villain throughout the film the way he was portrayed. He just didn't get his big moment until the end.

X:FC by far the best xmen movie.

I don't really care who they use as long as the movie is good..but it would be nice to have couple more familiar faces, even though I dislike Iceman and Cyclops as characters. Jean would be great, and Archangel..in fact It would be cool if the movie dealt with Warren becoming Archangel but that is just wishful thinking. Don't give a damn about Sentinels, i'd rather a proper villain like Sinister or Apocalypse..again I'm sure that's wishful thinking. Some variation on the Mutant Massacre would be awesome.

How about they lay off X-Men movies for a few years until either:

a) They get them right (sorry, but First Class wasn't good enough).

b) The rights revert back to Marvel.

BTW right aren't reverting to marvel because FOX will keep milking it. So we can only hope they get it right from here on (FC was cool IMO).

Get real. They're not going to give up the rights any time soon. I doubt Marvel could do a better job than First Class the way Disney Studios co-produces their movies now. You saw how Captain America washed over WW2 describing Nazis simply as bullies and shooting lazers at Hydra goons. That's not WW2.

First Class did a better job at framing its story in history with its social context. If they throw in a few more fan-favorite characters, that will be enough to keep the fanboys at bay.

Sinister would be awesome as a twisted geneticist.

I don't think Marvel would make a better X-Men movie..they might make a more faithful one, and I guess that would be good enough for some.

Considering they screwed up the timeline and characters beyond repair I suspect we'll get more of the same. So that means no cyclops, jean, angel, sentinels etc. The other characters from the previous film haven't been resolved so I expect they will return...apart from Darwin LOL!

xmen first class was a good movie

i want someone who can actually fix all these continuety [frick] ups and have the actual firt class be in the movie

"You saw how Captain America washed over WW2 describing Nazis simply as bullies and shooting lazers at Hydra goons. That's not WW2."

lol...Nazi's were bullies and there were no Hydra goons in the actual WWII, but there were in the comic books, so I am not sure what your challenge is. It's a comic book movie, it's not supposed to depict WWII in its entire authenticity. There was no Captain America with superpowers in WWII so perhaps they should have left him out of the movie as well?

I know Marvel won't be getting the X-Men film rights back anytime in the near future. I do think they would make a much more faithful film and a decent faithful film would be much better than a decent film but lousy CBM adaptation. My opinion.

I think they need to just make a GOOD sequel, I don't care who's involved! The first one was some of the most ridiculous, boring crap I've ever seen in a comic book movie! Less talky, less preachy, more ass kicky please. And please get rid of that stupid [frick]ing costume magneto wore at the end...the helmet can stay tho!

MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/10/2012, 9:01 AM
Ranger, agreed completely, but I'll always take a very good unfaithful CBM over a merely decent faithful one..and imo that was First Class. But that being said I really didn't consider First Class to be that unfaithful anyway. It took some big liberties sure, but character wise they were solid interpretations, and in the two main characters prob the BEST interpretations yet.

@redleaf - sorry but I disagree about TFA. As Ranger said Hydra was the focus there.

And Disney isn't "co-producing their movies now". They're not producers in any form. They're distributors and have a share on merchandising and grossing. Enough with Disney conspiratorial theories.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/10/2012, 9:16 AM
I agree with Redleaf on TFA. To avoid paraphrasing myself, here is what I wrote about that element of the movie in my review;)

In the first act we are introduced to the skinny, frail Steve Rogers. A man who is not bloodthirsty in any way, but recognizes the threat posed to the entire world by Hitler and the Nazis, and is determined that he will do his part to end their tyranny. So he is given that chance and becomes the ultra buff fighting machine known as Captain America. Then goes to fight a bunch of left overs from Gi Joe: Rise Of Cobra instead of Nazis. Where is this threat? The movie makes no effort to convey the situation at all. I'm not saying we needed to have shots of people being herded into the gas chamber (although at least a mention of the Holocaust would have been nice..well, not nice but...err, ah you get me) but something needed to be shown beyond a shot of a bomb with "New York" written on it imo. Sure there are action scenes, plenty of em (although there are a few cheats via montage) and they are for the most part well choreographed and exciting. But we know nothing is going to happen to Cap. And the rest of his Howling Commandos may as well have been left out of the movie for all they bring to it. Only Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is established as something approaching an important character and is then "killed off" in an almost nonchalant way leaving us with no choice but to not really give a damn. There are also a few dodgy choices made in the edit. One example would be Cap swinging on a chain and never coming off it. We simply cut to him running. That might sound a bit nit picky but for me it's ignoring one of the most basic rules of film making.

Now bear in mind I did give the movie a good rating overall, that was just the major thing that bothered me about it.

i would much rather see her tits than another [frick]ing X-Men movie, where they inevitably in some way [frick] up the story...again

BTW i would much rather see her tits than a lot of things.

@Ror - "The movie makes no effort to convey the situation [fighting hydra and not traditional nazis] at all"

Actually I remember that Chester's division was specifically dedicated to dismember Hydra. They said it a couple of times, and Steve even says that "If they're getting Schmidt I want to go".

Of course I'd like to see more cap against regular nazi scum but I wasn't bothered with it at any moment. At all.

Matt Vaughn needs to go back to making British Gangster films like he used to. I was 60/40 about his interpretation of the X-Men. Too many changes in character backgrounds and nature. I don't like it when Hollywood makes changes when they aren't warranted or necessary.
