We know that there is now a very good chance that we will see a sequel to Mathew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class and that the original cast are all set to return. We don't know if the same can be said of Vaughn, but we should find out one way or the other soon enough. But what of the story? Well, the last movie ended with Charles and Erik parting ways and suggested that if we saw them again it would be as fully fledged enemies. But Michael Fassbender reckons that may not be the case, or at least, he wouldn't like it to be. He says the fact that Magneto still has some ambiguity to him, and that Xavier sees it is what interests him most about the characters, and he wants that to continue in the next movie - “Hopefully we’ll get to do another one; that’s what we want to carry that vein through for sure. Personally, I do and I know James feels the same.”.

Here is an excerpt from IFC's article..

Referencing the on-again, off-again friendship between McAvoy’s character, Charles Xavier, and Fassbender’s magnetic mutant in the Marvel Comics universe, Fassbender hinted that there’s always the possibility that they’ll be on the same side again. Although if their comic-book history is any indication, it could take another threat bigger than both of them to bring the former friends together.

“You know what’s interesting about Magneto and Professor X from the comic books as well, is there’s such a complexity to their relationship,” he explained. “It’s not just like clear-cut enemies; they’re best friends as well. In the comic books, even after they’ve had this sort of rift, Professor X asks Magneto to come back and look after the students at certain points.”

“I think there’s always that complexity in their relationship,” he said. “And we want to keep that alive as possible, because that’s I think a really interesting thing — the conflict there.”

So what could make Xavier and Magneto join forces again? Of course even IF that happens we won't know for a long time but speculation is welcome! My money's on Apocalypse. Ok, not really, but a guy can hope right?

I'd rather have them fight a common enemy but involuntarily helping each other. I mean, the "I disagree with you but let's get him" thing is old now.

The Sentinels have to be in the sequel. That is a must.

I wouldn't want them "friends" again, and still enemies at the end. But might be cool to see them work together to fight a larger threat. X2 sort of already did that though, even if it wasn't Charles and Mags sharing scenes.

Better than having Magneto the villain in every damn movies as if the x-men have no other foe.

The only thing that will divide their friendship again is the interference of humans. Another normal human villain?

Better be original by using either the Sentinals or some sort of alien foe, otherwise the plot just doesn't interest me at all.

As long as they don't ignore what happened in the first film, then I'm okay with it.

I would say Sinister would make the best choice for a villain to bring the two together one more time before going their seperate ways for good. He's big but not too big and he's got his own group of evil mutants. I'd love to see the X-men and the Brotherhood team up against Sinsiter and his Maruaders.

Sentinels and Master Mold and a different version of Bastion would also work, but then agian why hadn't we seen sentinels before.

I know who they are facing now. If the X-men movie crew are trying to make sense in X2 X-men United Magneto and Professor X already knew who William Stryker is and who his son was so either the villain is William Stryker also from X-men origins when he picks up Cyclops. If not William Stryker the probally Mr. Sinister.

Since First Class doesn't follow the timeline and general continuity of the existing trilogy, I wonder will the First Class sequel follow the events of First Class.

As long as they have it be about the school. That should be the only reason for a sequel. The last film had a montage of expendable mutants that made no sense. As long as they don't throw in mutants in it just to be killed, i'd be fine with a sequel. Give the characters actual purpose for being in the film for [frick]'s sake.

Loved First Class. Can't wait for the sequel. The next one better introduce Sentinels, Scott Summers and Jean Grey. I feel like Charles' past should be explored a little more because there's still a lot of questions I have about his background, questions I hoped would have been explained in First Class. Magneto was the best part about the entire film. I seriously regret not seeing this film in theatres. Won't make that error again.

I would like to see what makes Michael Fassbender Magneto into Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto full of absolute hatred for Charles Xavier and his X-Men and why Raven/Mystique becomes so hateful and not the same person she was in X-Men First Class.

I want to see that journey that they all make. It has to be something really bad that Charles does to Erik and Mystique for them to truly hate them.

Not in this next sequel, but perhaps in the third and final film, who knows.

I know some people are understandably sick of seeing Magneto in X-movies but there is still so much that can be done with this character. I could watch 10 movies about Magneto, he's just such a great character!

Shaman, those characters were in the movie to introduce the X-mansion and the teaching concepts, which is what the X-men are all about. I think the reason they picked a few B or C listers was so they could kill them off if needed for dramatic affect. Nothing raises the stakes like characters being killed off.

"I could watch 10 movies about Magneto"

Well, you're probably going to have 6 if they make two more first class sequels.
