Benedict Cumberbatch Would Jump at the Chance to Play the Role of JAMES BOND

Cumberbatch who is promoting his new film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy sat down with Jonathon Ross. He briefly talks about his other new role, Smaug in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

"I would absolutely jump at the chance to play that kind of role. I think it would be so much fun. Technically what Matt Damon and Daniel Craig, and all the others before them, do is incredibly hard work. I've been lucky enough to do some quite interesting and diverse characters and roles, but I'd love to try something like that."

Before you just dismiss his comments as something most rising British stars would say, then keep this in mind. In this very same interview Benedict also said he had no interest in playing the beloved science fiction character, Dr. Who.

I've been following Benedict's interviews, as I have a lot of interest in his new movie Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Which boasts one of the greatest casts ever assembled. In those interviews he has stated multiple times that he would love to expand into action films, but this is the first time he has directly said that he would like the role of Bond.

Now, of course Daniel Craig has not vacated the position, but he of late has been whining quite a bit about how demanding the role is physically for him. And he only seems to be doing it because it allows him to get other roles that would be out of reach for him if he wasn't well known as Bond. Meaning, that role has a shot of opening up once that third outing for Craig is released.

If you have the time make sure you check out the video about his role as Smaug for The Hobbit, and the movie trailer below for Benedict's new spy film. Like I said this is an all star lineup: Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Ian McKellen, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, and Jon Hurt. Does it get any better then that?

Craig's third outing as James Bond will be released on October 26, 2012. Daniel Craig will be joined by Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, as well as a Judi Dench as M.

Noooooo no no no no. Perfect as Sherlock. Or even the Doctor. Not Bond.

Next Bond should be Michael Fassbender. With Vaughn directing. GOD that would be amazing...

Probably the worst proposal for a Bond I've ever heard.

Stick with Sherlock, Benedict - you do a great job :-)

I don't know an actor that wouldn't jump at the role of Bond, doesn't mean you are right for it.

He is also playing Sauron in the Hobbit, not just Smaug

No he doesn't have the James Bond look. My vote goes to either Michael Fassbender or Tom Hardy.

Ummm... Matt Damon was never Bond, he was Bourne. Cumberbatch was a great modern incarnation of Sherlock Holmes, but he looks too dry and young for a Bond. Someone like Michael Fassbender or Tom Hardy would have my vote.

No way. DOctor Who maybe, but never James Bond. I reserve that role for Fassbender and Fassbender only. Although, I've heard Ewan McGregor has been considered in the past too...

HELL TO THE MOTHA FRICKIN NO!

THIS GUY IS NO BOND! This guy is ugly as hell!

Bond is supposed to have sex appeal. This guy is not sexy at all. Neither was Brosnan - I hate that guy. I always thought Daniel Craig was kinda old for the role, not to mention blonde! But he did have the persona and the BODY! I hope they make a chiseled Bond a permanent character element for future films. A top secret agent should be in shape, no?

But c'mon, what actor wouldn't jump at the opportunity to play THE James Bond? That is just a given.

Fassbender is a pretty good choice for Bond. No to Tom Hardy. But Henry Cavill would be frickin perfect for the role!

Fassbender would own!!!...

Cavill would not be bad either.

Here's a thought, how about Idris Elba?!... Has the accent, physicality and charisma. A new interpretation of an iconic character.

My thoughts,

I bet Ross had trouble keeping in the laughter when he came out with that! If they carry on in the same fashion after Daniel Craig retires from the role then i wouldn't be against Butler taken it up. Cavill would be awful his not old enough and his to much of a pretty boy! Fassbenders is a good shout though!
