In 2009, we saw Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr, take on an entirely different sort of role when he played Sherlock Holmes alongside Jude Law's Dr Watson in a movie that was well recieved by critics and fans alike. Well, it looks like the duo might have a new nemesis to face up against in the upcoming sequel which is set to hit cinemas on December 16, 2011.
According to SuperHeroHype's "unconfirmed sources" there are a fair few actors in the running for the role of Holmes' arch-villain. Moriarty had a very brief appearance in the first movie but was hidden in shadow with only a few muffled words the only clue for fans to try and work out who the voice belonged to.
However, the identity of who's voice that was (many believe it to have been Brad Pitt) might not matter. Apparently, Oscar winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis as pictured above is director Guy Ritchie's #1 choice to play the character! The site goes on to report that Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman are also in consideration but are quick to reiterate that this is still very much an unconfirmed rumour at this point.
