Dwayne Johnson To Star In FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS Spin-Off Movie Before Returning For FAST X: PART 2

Well, the cat's out of the bag! After that surprise post-credits, Dwayne Johnson has finally confirmed his return to the Fast & Furious franchise, and will star in a Hobbs spinoff before Fast X: Part 2!

Dwayne Johnson and Universal Pictures have announced today that The Rock is rejoining the Fast & Furious franchise, which should really be a surprise to no one after his unexpected cameo during the post-credits of the recently released Fast X

However, before reuniting with Vin Diesel and the Fast Family in 2025's Fast X: Part 2, Johnson will headline his own Luke Hobbs spinoff film. He reveals, "The next Fast & Furious film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the HOBBS movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FAST X: Part II"

The Hollywood Reporter adds that this will not be a Hobbs & Shaw sequel, but will essentially be a Fast X.5 and pick up after the events of the post-credits with Hobbs getting a call from Jason Momoa's Fast X baddie Dante, who Johnson seems to indicate will also be the villain of the spinoff.

Additional cast members from the extended Fast & Furious family will also appear, but the on-screen reunion between Diesel and Johnson won't happen until Fast X: Part 2, at the earliest.

Chris Morgan is scripting the spinoff and producing. Johnson and Diesel are both onboard as producers, alongside their respective companies, Seven Bucks Productions and One Race.

As for his nearly seven-year feud with Diesel, he finally confirmed that he and the franchise's leading man buried the hatched last year, saying "Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve - and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love."

Considering Fast X: Part 2 already has a release window, Universal may be planning on shooting this Hobbs film a lot sooner than expected, especially if they plan on getting it out before 2025.

To date, Fast X has grossed $544.3 million on an estimated - and insane - $340M production budget, so it still has a ways to go to reach profitability, but it seems as though the studio is banking on the latest installment reigniting the franchise's dwindling flame and hopefully set the stage for a massive finale, although whether it happens in 2025 or 2030 is anyone's guess.

@ForceofWakanda - exactly. yet they come on here and other places with this attitude as if they are speaking for the masses. but yet i see the masses of people still paying money to go see what they are so "fatigued" about. HA. sooooo stupid!!!

@supermanrex -

It's main character syndrome. Everybody has to think exactly like them or they're not happy or some shit lol

I actually like the dynamic he has with Shaw. Hope he makes an appearance.

Guess the hierarchy of the DC Universe didn't change and he's back as Hobbs

@SimplyAz - This and the Moana remake definitely feel like responses to his Black Adam cinematic universe crashing & burning. Thing is, idk if the pivot's even gonna work that well since both Fast & the live-action disney remakes are seeing a downwards trend

@tmp3 -

Especially Moana feels like the last roll of the dice.

Will he announce the 3rd of his Jumanji series next?

@SimplyAz - the Jumanji thing's weird because they were 2 mega-hits, you'd think him and Sony would announce a new one while the iron's hot. I'm sure that's the back-up plan for this back-up plan lol

@tmp3 -

With all his generic movies coming out, it's strange he's forgotten about his most recent successful franchise

@tmp3 - Disney has been a very reliable partner for him and the Fast franchise is what brought him back from the brink in his career. Hobbs and Shaw did decent numbers. And eventhough the live action Disney films have had some backlash; I think Moana will be fine if it looks ok and opens in China. Not getting a China release was the biggest blow to Black Adam because he's very big in China.

@SimplyAz - last roll of the dice??? are you crazy. the man owns a damn football league, an alcohol line, a clothing line etc!! if you think the rock would turn down the chance to play that character in moana especially since he was the OG VOICE of the character from the cartoon who is based on his grand father. damn yall [frick]ers are such trolls!!!

Fast X acted like Hobbs & Shaw never even happened, and it's even weirder that they're doing another Hobbs spin-off that's not a sequel to H&S. Feel like they're just milking this "finale" like crazy, especially weird since it's dropping from F9

Guess he needs a win after he bombed trying to take over DC.

Also releasing spin off movies in the middle of a multipart movie that is will likely factor into the second part is dumb

If its a multiparter dont tell parts of the story outside of the parts
