Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson recently confirmed that the developmental process is well-underway on Jumanji 3.

Sony took a risk a few years back by announcing a Jumanji sequel/reboot was coming. There was a growing fatigue and negativity surrounding any reboots, and with The Rock attached, it had one of Hollywood’s most prolific stars. It set to release just a few weeks after Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a release date that would’ve sunk most movies. To everyone's surprise, instead Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle exceeded every expectation and was one of last year’s most enjoyable and monetarily successful blockbusters.

It has now became Sony’s biggest movie ever domestically, and is nearing $1 billion worldwide. Hence why it came as no surprise when reports surfaced that a sequel is in the works; something that the film’s star and producer, Dwayne Johnson, has now confirmed to be true.

Johnson took to Instagram to bask in the glory of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s record breaking success, but also get the interest in the sequel going. In the video below, Johnson confirms that they are hard at work on Jumanji 3 - whilst also teasing that his co-star Kevin Hart's character Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar will be killed off for good.

Check out Johnson's thankful, celebratory Instagram video below:

Director Jake Kasdan and writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg are returning for Jumanji 3, so the film will hopefully have a story as creative as the first's. With Johnson has confirmed plans for the sequel, we can assume that he will be reprising his role as Dr. Smolder Bravestone - most likely alongside his co-stars: Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black (as well as possibly Nick Jonas and the film's younger cast members).

Jumanji 3 is clearly in the early stages of development, but Sony chairman Tom Rothman reportedly already has plans the film to hit theaters by next Christmas. Whether or not that can be done remains to be seen as Johnson has one of the busiest schedules in Hollywood. The actor will be filming Jungle Cruise this summer and then his Fast & Furious spinoff later this year. Johnson also believes Black Adam will film next year, as will Red Notice in order to make its 2020 date.

What do you think about a sequel to Jumaji: Welcome to the Jungle and what would you like to see from it? Which cast members would you like to return and how?

Loved number 2 and so did everyone of my friends and family who watched it, so this is good news.

Wish the Rock would throw in a few more dramatic roles as well, thought he was great in the Underrated Faster and think it would elevate his reputation even more.

@SimplyAz - I enjoyed it suprisingly I just wish they would have given us some backstory as how Jumanji is able to transform from a board game to a videogame.....and yes Faster was pretty damn good

@Nicklander -

Will be fascinating to see where they take it. Although they were clever enough to take the sequel in an interesting direction but where it felt respectable to the first. Like how Jumanji as a game just wants to be played.

@SimplyAz - Walking Tall and the Rundown. Two of the Rock's greatest roles that include dramatic acting. I haven't seen Faster, but I'll check it out.

Walking Tall is still the Rock's best performance.

@L0RDbuckethead - - Both were good films, had them both on Dvd and loved watching them. Even showed Rundown to my kids, who also loved the Tooth Fairy as well.

Definitely check out faster, it's a very lean and mean action movie, almost like those they made in the seventies.

Why?
Nebula

@Ronan3Accuser - Because the first one made a ridiculous [frick]-ton and most people liked it.

Just like Transformers, Fast and Furious, the list goes on and on. If you have an audience and can make money. Milk the cow for what it’s worth.

Still haven’t seen this but very understandable they’d want to develop a sequel to the...sequel.

And I personally don’t want him to play Black Adam but I don’t know the character well enough to suggest anybody else. I just think he was picked because of his status at the time🤷🏽‍♂️

What happened to @Unites post??

I’m guessing it was taken down because someone else had it queued first which is fair enough

It was frickin amazing by the way
Nebula
Nebula - 4/12/2018, 3:15 AM
@ChangAlang - No, it's not in the queue. I'm pretty sure it was already posted, like, ages ago though. Not that I was the one who deleted it, I don't do that.

Sorry @Nebula. I definitely wasn’t accusing you of doing anything like that. You don’t come across as that “Wild”😉

It wasn’t a server error, it was like it was erased after I posted a comment but it seems to be up again🤷🏽‍♂️

And, don't worry, I know you weren't accusing me. I was just clarifying that it wasn't based on my own comment.

Yeah, weird. Whoever deleted it, however wild they may be, probably deleted it because they thought it was already posted like me but then researched it after the fact rather than before. I don't know.

Why would he even be involved after the end of the movie? They should keep it as a sort of anthology series new characters new variations of the game

@SupermansTrunks - He's the producer.

ChangAlang - 4/12/2018, 3:42 AM
@SupermansTrunks - Probably get roasted for this but if you had said that last bit on a Star Wars thread you would’ve been torn a new one.

But he seems to have a good rapport with Sony. No doubt that helps a lot.
