Kiefer Sutherland Offers A Positive Update On 24: THE MOVIE; Expected To Shoot Next Year

Kiefer Sutherland offers fans an update on the status of 24: The Movie, confirming that he will begin working on the movie as soon as his stint on the second season of Touch wraps up next year. He also comments on whether he thinks Jack Bauer has been away for too long for a film to work.

The planned big screen version of 24 has been talked about since before the show was cancelled all the way back in 2010, and while it looked as if Jack Buaer would finally be making his film debut next year, shooting was put on hold a few months ago and we've heard very little since. Talking to Crave Online at the annual gathering of the Television Critics Association, Kiefer Sutherland has shared his thoughts on the delay. "Timing. We didn’t have a script ready for that until very close to the end of 'Touch.' We knew we were coming back so there was a very finite window for me to make the film, to try to prep it, cast it and all of those other things. It was just unrealistic for Fox to try and make it, so they pushed it for next break."

As you can see, it was his role in Touch which resulted in this delay, although that was just one of a few different reasons reported as to why the film didn't shoot as planned this summer (these included Sutherland not being happy with how little Fox were offering him to reprise the role and the script not being to the studio's liking). However, when asked if it will definitely shoot when production on season two of Touch wraps, he said, "I believe so, yeah." As for whether or not he thinks that four years (the movie is currently expected to be released in 2014) will have been too long, Sutherland added, "No, because I think we can make a great film. I mean, I don’t want to do it with a cane, but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens."

I enjoyed the show, but one thing that made it so ground breaking was the idea of everything happening in real time. That can not be done in a movie. I just think it will be really hard to pull off the same feel of the show in a two hour movie.

Jack is the man though!

I loved 24, it was joyously shameless cheese and during the heights of seasons 3 or 5 it was utter suspence pornography. That said I fear FOX will be entirely unable to translate it to the big screen. I passionatly want a good 24 film, so for that reason, I sadly don't want them to proceed.

a 24 movie, along with deadpool and sin city 2 movies, are not remotely believable until i'm actually sitting in the theater watching them

24 = crack without the side effects. Oh, and David Palmer IS the president forever and always. Bring it on.

I would imagine that, in a film, the last 24 minutes would be in real time.
