New UK Movie Poster for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables

New UK Movie Poster for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables

Finally! A poster for this homage to '80s action movies that looks like a poster for an '80s action movie!

The first poster for writer-director Sylvester Stallone's new movie, The Expendables simply featured his tattooed back. This poster was quickly followed by several tattoo-like images of guns and skulls, which were cool, but didn't really feel right for this homage to '80s action movies. Finally, the UK movie poster for The Expendables looks the way that a poster for an homage to '80s action movies should: A simple composition of stoic, tough-guy posturing in front of a wall of fire!

The Expendables opens August 13th in the U.S.!

@Tea: LMFAO! Yeah, that was definitely shopped (or Li was standing on a stool) because Sly and Statham are like a head taller than he is! I've seen The One.

Nice old school looking poster and this movie would kick serious arse and I'll be the first on the ticket line!

Good one, Brent!

Thanks, guys! It's hard to keep up with the other news junkies on this site, but I try to get in some news when I can.

Anyone know how tall Li is? I've heard that Stallone is pretty short and I met Statham and we were eye-to-eye (I'm 5'10"). Just curious...

Brent: I don't think I've ever seen an article posted by you that is anywhere near repetative on any subject. They are always cool. ;)

This movie is gonna own. Glad Statham is getting second billing. I wish he'd get a better franchise to star in. Kind of a fake out the way the have Bruce and Arnold on there. Aren't they only in like one scene?
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 7:12 AM
Mass- Yeah, i think so. But that's the price you pay to have those names in your film i guess.

@TABOO13 - I heard they asked Van Damme but he turned it down. I think he still takes himself to seriously.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/30/2010, 8:16 AM
Mass- He most certainly does. But it was also because he was trying something more serious with JCVD. It worked out great but i still think he should've gotten himself a sense of humour and hopped in on the Expendables train.

TABOO13- Lundgren took Van Damme's spot. As for Seagal, i would've liked him to be in it but i'm content with him being in Machete.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 6/30/2010, 8:34 AM
Yeah, I would have loved to see Seagal in this even Damme regardless of the fact I can't stand him. However, his movies are classics...some of them.

@LEEE: That's...pretty short for a dude.

@Hawks: Thanks!

@Shaman: Tree-fitty! Ha! In rural Wisconsin where I grew up (I've been in San Diego for 15 years), some people say, "Buck-two-fiddy," for $3.50. No friggin' idea where that came from.

@Shaman: Awesome avatar, BTW!

@Mass: Yeah, I agree about Statham. Dude owns! Willis and Schwarz get marquee because people will go to the movie just to see that one scene.

I would take JCVD--he's still in shape--but I would pass on bloaty Seagal.

Brent- Thanks man ;) And yeah, i think they just love to use the word "buck". Like "buck-o-five" n' shit.

Yeah, Seagal is done. Stick a fork in'em. I'm a laugh my ass off at Machete LOL

DDD - 6/30/2010, 10:03 AM

He could pass for the Goodyear blimp!

Ror, Ror, Ror...(shakes head). You gotta explain to me what you think a good action movie is sometime, buddy, and give me some examples.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 6/30/2010, 11:00 AM
One that isn't completely predictable, has actual actors and not a bunch of muscle headed 80's "Stars" and todays wooden goons like Statham(I do like Li though), isn't so over the top as to become completely ridiculous, has an actual plot, even if its rudimentary, just have an ACTUAL plot and not people taking about blowing stuff up and then blowing it up for 2 hrs(The A-Team). and dialog that doesn't read like it was written on the back of a beer mat by a 10 year old.

Some examples of action movies that I think set the standard. Die hard. yes, its over the top, but not so completely unbelievable that it takes you out of the movie. they also make you care about John McLane and the dilog is pretty good too. Great villain in Rickman. All of the Bourne films. Serenity..you could argue its a sci fi movie(which of course it is) but there is a hell of a lot of action in it, its just balanced very well. Countless Asian martial arts and action films like Hard Boiled, Infernal Affairs(maybe more of a thriller..), Crouching Tiger, Hero. Then veering into sci fi, Terminator, Predator, Aliens, Robocop.. there are lots.

I get that films like this appeal to a sense of nostalgia and I do have that a small bit because these are guys I watched as a kid, but even then I knew the movies were crap, I just watched for the fights and stuff. I just can't do that anymore, maybe thats a bad thing, but thats just how I look at it now. There has to be some substance to any movie..even an action movie. Hey I might be way off, I'm only going by the trailer after all, and I would certainly watch The Expendables if you put it on in front of me and fed me beer! But the bottom line for me is I don't care if Jesus, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny star in it, it better me a solid film too to get my money.

Ror, NO love for stupid action? Commando? Crank? Tango and Cash? Running Man? Man, that's just no fun.

You do list some of the GREATEST action movies of all time, but I also have a soft spot for less thought full action IF its executed well. I'm glad I haven't grown out of that.
