RESULTS: Which Female Should Join The Expendables Sequel?

Earlier this week, I asked if a female should join the cast of the upcoming sequel to The Expendables, and if so, which actress should take part in the film? Here are the not-too-surprising results.

Not surprisingly, a female from the older generation won this poll, as well as the second place actress. What surprised me, however, was the third place actress, who was a late addition to the poll. I expected some of the other actresses to get more votes than they did, but I think the right person won this poll.

So, after seeing the results here, do you think adding a female to this cast would work? And, is Linda Hamilton really the right fit? I'd like to see her join the cast, but I'd lik to see the Linda Hamilton from the Terminator 2 days. Sigourney Weaver, however, could very likely step right into the roster quite well. As for the younger crowd, Michelle Rodriguez won rather convincingly, with the next closest person, Jovovich, a full 100 votes behind. I'm not afraid to admit that I am not a fan of Rodriguez at all, but she would fit well with the current cast. But an actress like Jovovich could add an interesting element to the film. The other write-in, Cynthia Rothrock, came in at number 5. My guess is that the younger crowd of CBM have no idea who she is. Hell...I had no idea who she was!

Either Linda Hamilton or Sigounery Weaver because this is about old school fav's so they should have the honor but don't get me wrong Pam Grier is classic also but Hamilton & Weaver r two of the greatest action stars for females back in tha day, imagine Linda Hamilton body build from T2 & she would looked like that playing Wonder Woman in her prime. Hamilton is still Hott! but if a younger female were to join maybe it should be Rodriguez

Michelle Rodrigues is the only one that fits in with the Expendables cast. Half of them don't even belong there themselves.

Personally, I can do without the whole action woman characters if they all didn't have paper towel tube arms and legs. I'm sorry but people like Saldana in Colombiana would break a bone if not their entire hand punching something and with Johansson in Iron Man 2 any fight scene looks like she's hanging off wires, even though they usually are. It's almost like they go out of their way to make the women fights as campy as they can.

Suspension of disbelieve is just to hard sometimes and is actually irritating. In an action scene I spend half my time admiring their hotness and the other half thinking how stupid the scene looks.Even If movie makers don't take them seriously why should we. Just do away with them all together unless they might scenes worthy of the movies they put them in.

The only believable women for this type of movie are:

1) Hamilton
2) Weaver
3) Rodgrigues
4) Greir**** (if she's be up to it, she'd be the best fit)
5) Lawless

Everyone else is just disingenuous.

The problem with Sigounery Weaver - except for maybe Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke - is that she is a proper thespian who would make Sly, Jason Statham and rest even worse on screen than they are. She also works better in 'action movies with brains' like Aliens. I would go with Rodriguez because she would fit into that type of film.

In reality Michelle Yeoh is badder than all of those chicks put together. I say go with her, we'll get a better movie as a result.

She also wouldn't require any stunt doubles in any of her action scenes. Since she holds black belts in several different disciplines her fighting scenes will look a whole lot cooler and authentic.

This should be an easy choice Sly. You already have White and Black audiences sold. Michele Yeoh is also arguably the biggest female movie star in a lot of Asian countries.

Just because she has black belts doesn't mean she does all her stunts. Last time I was in karate instruction I must have missed the seminar on doing my own stunts. Saying biggest female movie star in a lot of Asian countries doesn't say much. I think there may be like six total actresses. If that.

Why Michelle Rodriguez gets such love I'll never know. Guess alotta people loved her in Resident Evil which I think is one of her worst performances. How was Tia Carrere and Natasha Hensridge not on the list too? Since they've been getting action stars from yesteryear in the franchise, why not them? Milla would been good for the movie, but somehow never gets the respect she deserves i.e. never having her in mind for Black Widow.

Kalisto@ Exactly. At least someone else here knows best fighting talent out of the group. Michelle Yeoh would hand any of the other names on the list their ass on a silver platter.

Scion@ You don't have a clue how many martial arts films there are released in the Asian countries do you? Yeoh is also very recognized and respected for her abilities outside of Asian film and...apparently outside of those that frequent this site. I was a martial arts instructor. You don't teach stunts for movies. Gifted martial artists do their own stunts because they are gifted and have more ability up and above the those who simply achieve the status of certain belts by memorizing katas, kicks throws and combinations (depending on your discipline). The martial arts was commercialized when it was brought to the U.S. You can earn a black belt here in a year and a half time in some dojos and not be that talented, whereas in the Asian countries you still have to put in a lot of time and have the ability that is required of a black belt.

If such a character were placed in the upcoming Expendables sequel, she better be able to handle the action scenes...and be hot of course.

@AlexDeLarge- Linda Hamilton? Sigourney Weaver? Yes, mature could work.

cosmicstranger@ I can only see them as some CIA-Operative´s or something like that ;)

Definitely Gina Carano or Michelle Rodriguez if they are looking for someone who can STILL handle action scenes.

Michelle Yeoh is not getting her proper respect as she, of all the people on this list, truly fits being labeled as an action star. How many martial arts movies has she done, let alone done a good chunk of her own fights and stunts (which should be a requirement as an action star)? She almost ties a record for most broken bones on a shoot with Jackie Chan because that's really her doing all that crazy crap in her movies.

I think the reason Michelle Rodriguez gets a lot of love on this list is due to Resident Evil and believably conveying the @$$ kicking that'd be required in EX2, something a lot of the women on this list would have a problem with.

Also, I think it should be pointed out that there is a difference between being IN an action movie and being an action star. Both Linda and Sigourney have been IN action movies (T2 and Aliens respectively) but neither have made their careers off of a string of action movies like the fellas in Expendables or some of the other girls on the list. As much as I'm not a fan of Mila Jolovich, I'd take her over both Weaver and Hamilton, but would take Yeoh and Rodriguez over her (especially for this type of movie).
