With the DCEu in its infancy, Warner Bros. made the bold move to make Suicide Squad. Set to be the DCEU's answer to Guardians of the Galaxy, DC set about making a wild and wacky thrill ride filled with laughs, splashes of color and over the top insanity and had it delivered on this premise, the movie may well have become gold! Instead, through massive editing, David Ayer's initial vision was twisted and turned into a mess that is both bland and boring and you can literally feel the harsh re-editing this movie experienced. With Shazam on the horizon, fingers crossed movies as terrible as Suicide Squad will become a distant memory.
With strong leads such as Will Smith and Margot Robbie the movie had bankable appeal. Some comedic writing that served most characters well if at times miss timed, helps ease our way through some of the really rough parts of the movie. Visually, at least in terms of the costumes and make up, this moive is a feast for the eyes. So many crazy colors and unique visual takes from each character make each of them something to study. It is a shame that despite excellent chasting however the depth and detail of their costumes is often times as deep as these characters become. Said really.
