SUICIDE SQUAD Actress Margot Robbie Signs On To Play The Lead In A MARIAN-Centric Robin Hood Spinoff
In addition to Lionsgate's Robin Hood: Origins, Sony is planning a version of the classic tale with Maid Marian as the main character, and Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie has been tapped for the lead role.
Hollywood seems determined to keep making Robin Hood movies for all eternity, but this one does approach the story from a slightly different angle, at least.
Deadline reports that Sony Pictures has enlisted Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad, The Wolf of Wall Street) to play the iconic heroine of the title in Marian, which actually takes place after Robin Hood has died, and sees his devastated lover taking up his legendary mantle and leading her people in a "pivotal war."
The studio reportedly landed the rights to Pete Barry’s script following a heated bidding war, and has appointed Donald De Line and Amy Pascal to produce the movie.
In addition to Robin Hood: Origins and Marian, Sony has another Sherwood Forest adventure called Hood in the pipeline, and there's also Disney's Nottingham & Hood. At least one of 'em is bound to be good... right?
