Sherlock Holmes was good but needed some improvements.

You guys know the story. Holmes and Watson take on Lord Blackwood, who has recently come back to life. Intertwined in that are (spoiler) Watson getting married (end of spoiler), and Holmes' love interest, Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams). The story was quite boring during the first hour and didn't suck me in like Avatar did. But after that the story got very interesting. What made the movie for me was the genius of Sherlock. He is quite smart. That genius is what made the film similar to the old Sherlock Holmes. The differences being the fact that this Holmes is dirty, a slob, repulsive, a flirt, funny, a drunk, and crazy (at times). While the old Holmes is boring, clean/neat, straightlaced, and downright dreadful at times. But they share their genius'. RDJ really helps this film. Though I like this Holmes better than the old one. I don't like boring, straightlaced characters. I like this new one's personality. I didn't like the last part of the final battle as well... but thats just me.

The effects were nice. BOOM!!! Happened quite a lot. I took my grandfather to this film and he said he couldn't fall asleep ;) (grandparents, gotta love em). But the effects/action were cool. The old Sherlock Holmes (which I like) wasn't actiony at all. But the action was what made this movie cool. The humor also helped. The old Holmes weren't funny (why do I like the old Holmes??), so the humor in-between the action really makes the movie fun and interesting.

The acting was good and bad. RDJ was excellent as this new take on Holmes. His career has really begun again for him (with his recent titles like: Iron Man, the Soloist, and Tropic Thunder), he's a big time actor again. RDJ made Holmes a likeable and fun character to watch. Jude Law was also fantastic as Watson. He does the old, fat, never outgoing character some justice in this movie. I think the academy could even recognize his performance as a supporting actor. Holmes couldn't live without him and they make the best-buddy team since Cable & Deadpool. Rachel McAdams was one of the downpoints of the movie. She does nothing but fall down, talk, and trick Holmes sexually. Her acting was choppy and she was unnecessary. Her bad acting surprised me as she is normally good in movies (like Red Eye and Wedding Crashers), but she just sucks in this. Mark Strong deserved more screentime as Blackwood. He is great as the evil villain. He's smart, unpredictable (at times, no one's smarter than Holmes), dark, and just EVIL . I agree with DDD, MARK STRONG FOR DR. DOOM . So the acting helped and hurt this film. The other actors were just ok. I'm not gonna get into them though.

So now for the score. I did like this film, but it needs improvements.

3 out of 4 stars

And i dunno man, he would make a good DOOM but CHRISTOPH WALTZ for "BASTERDS" would make a better one!!!

But....

I would take either if DOOM was in the new FF movie!!

@LEEE: Waltz was good in Basterds but he's too old and too humorous to be Doom... but nice pick though ;)

CRITIC @ Cheers an how do you reckon he's too old????

@LEEE: He's 53, I'd say a Doom in his 30's is the best... Strong is 46 and looks like he's 36. So I say Strong for Doom. Yeah, they should just skip the origin like you said, the same thing they did with IH.

@LEEE: Well... you beat me at that... you've won the battle, but you shalt not win the WAR!!!! Heh heh, just kidding...

Fury's supposed to be old, but I think that Waltz is just to devious/humorous to play the depressing, evil, and dark Dr. Doom. Just my opinion though...
