Thor: The Dark World Review - MCU At Its Absolute Worst

Thor: The Dark World, sequel to Thor, should have been incredible however coming off the back of The Avengers the MCU had some short lived difficulties finding its feet again.

The Avengers, released in 2012, saw Joss Whedon raise the bar for comic book movies. The movie told a good story with lots of active lead characters and it had a good villain whilst also featuring incredible action sequences. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe acting as sort of one big movie trilogy, Marvels Phase 2 plays the part of the dirty, dark sequel. Iron Man 3 was amore grounded approach featuring a deep dive into Tony's mind traumatized by the events in The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World would not only be the dark sequel for Thor but once again carry the darker tone of this period of the MCU a darker tone that wouldn't break until Guardians of the Galaxy.

The dark sequel was to be expected and The Dark World should have been great. The idea of including the Dark Elves was a great choice as they're a classic villain of the character of Thor but it all hit the screen in such a bland, muddled and overly boring manner. Thor spends his time brooding and moping about Asgard fawning over Jane Foster, Loki spends a good portion of the film in jail, all the Earthlings in the movie are as annoying as ever and the Dark Elves were simply executed poorly and never received the writing or screen time to make them a good villain in fact many would argue Maliketh is the worst villain in the MCU to date.
