The CW has decided to give pilot orders to both Gotham Knights and The Winchesters, while Robert Rodriguez's female-led Zorro series has received an order for six more scripts. That's not moving to series quite yet, but this is a good indication that the network has serious plans for the project.
Gotham Knights, which isn't related to the upcoming video game of the same name, comes from Batwoman writers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams. It's not actually set in The CWVerse as it picks up shortly after the murder of Bruce Wayne, with his rebellious adopted son forming an alliance with the children of Batman's enemies when they’re all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. With Gotham as dangerous as it’s ever been, the group of fugitives could be the city’s next saviours.
It's a somewhat strange story to tell, and another example of Warner Bros. making a Batman TV series...minus Batman. Hopefully, more plot and character details will be revealed soon.
The Winchesters is the third attempt at a Supernatural spinoff and is a prequel following "the epic, untold love story" of John and Mary Winchester, Sam and Dean's parents. Jensen Ackles is set to executive produce and narrate the show, while Supernatural's Robbie Thompson is penning the script.
Jared Padalecki is also expected to be involved in some way, but he might be busy elsewhere as The CW has also ordered a prequel for his new show, Walker, set in the 19th century.
Pilot orders don't mean any of these shows will happen, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
