GOTG Director Describes Alternate VOL. 2 Scene With Rocket Raccoon Dropping Multiple F-Bombs

Although it was never intended to feature in the actual movie, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn says he animated an alternate Vol. 2 scene involving Rocket Raccoon dropping multiple F-bombs...

James Gunn continues to share new details from his time working on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies via Twitter, and this latest tidbit spotlights what sounds like a hilarious moment that never would have made it into the theatrical cut of Vol. 2 in a million years.

Gunn debunked a rumor about Star-Lord having his dialogue re-dubbed to remove an F-bomb during the now legendary "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all" scene, but revealed that he did have footage of Rocket Raccoon unleashing a series of "[frick]s" after he and Groot bid farewell to Yondu.

"I do have footage of Rocket flying away with Baby Groot, after saying, “He said welcome to the frickin’ Guardians of the Galaxy... only he didn’t say ‘frickin’.” And then as he flies away he turns to Baby Groot, irritated, and says - “We're gonna have to have a serious talk about your language! ‘[frick] this, [frick] that,’ everything’s ‘[frick] [frick] [frick]’ all the time!”

Gunn says he even animated the sequence in post viz, but it was obviously never intended to be seen in any version of the movie. Marvel have been known to push the boundaries of the PG-13 rating from time to time (see the link above), but the mighty F-bomb would probably be a step too far for the Disney-owned studio.

Still, this does sound like an awesome alternate take on the scene, and we hope Gunn decides to share it with us someday.

Glad they cut that. Sounds terrible.

If Disney ever manages to surgically remove the stick from their corporate butt, the first "F-Bomb" in a Marvel movie is going to break the internet. And if it isn't Rocket, Wolverine better be the one who gets to say it.

@SerKurtWagner - I doubt it. Theres nothing impressive about that.

@JustALurker - Kinda is.... Years of people joking about Disney's censorship, years of teasing with the "almost-****" in Homecoming and Captain Marvel. I guarantee you if/when it happens, it will become a meme.

Doesn't sound that funny

@BlackBeltJones - But don't you see? That would have made it more mature, adult-oriented, and necessitated an R-rated film, thus a better movie.

Why haven't they ever actually dropped an F-bomb in a Marvel film yet? Don't PG-13 films get to use 1? Which means they actually do have the option but won't do it for some reason.

America has always been weird when it comes to swearing, lol

@Nightwing1015 - Use as much blood and gore as you want, depict all the violence you can muster up, but for the love of God there had better not be any foul language or nudity!

[frick]in' Puritans, man.

@EskimoJ - Yeah, the worst offender is the Walking Dead. One of the most gory, violent, dark, depressing shows on TV. You can shoot children, cut off limbs and have fan-favourite characters literally ripped apart in a bloody fight.

But you have to say "SCREWING with the wrong people" lol

@EskimoJ - Who exactly are you talking about? There are tons of R rated and unrated movies with lots of blood, gore, violence, foul language and nudity.

If you're talking specifically about Disney, they have ALSO released plenty of R rated movies with violence, foul language, and nudity through their subsidiaries such as Miramax, Touchtone Studios, and Dimension Films.

@Feralwookiee - Who exactly are you talking about?

He's talking about the double standard that exists in media that has a relaxed stance towards violence yet an almost pathological fear of sex. It's basically saying it's okay to take a life in front of children but heaven help you if you try to make one.

@Reeds2Much - But, as far as I can see, that's a false arguement. There are plenty of movies, mainstream or not, that have gratuitous nudity and foul language. But, just like movies with graphic violence, these aren't intended for (or at least shouldn't be imo) children.

If an adult wishes to view sex or nudity, there are plenty of places to do that as we all well know, in addition to mainstream movies which depict nudity and toned down sex acts. The arguement that Hollywood has a "pathological fear of sex" is ridiculous to me. The porn industry is a BILLION DOLLAR industry in this country alone. There is no "fear" of sex on film, whether it's mainstream or the adult film industry. Sex has always and will always sell. Just my 2 cents.

And how many of those are PG13? You can beat and kill people and the only real limit is the amount of fake blood is displayed, but any mention of sex? You risk your rating.

@Reeds2Much - Are you suggesting there SHOULD be gratuitous nudity and (more) foul language in PG13 movies?

Obviously, there's a limit to the amount of adult material the mpaa would like in a PG13 film, thus the rating. If a person wants to watch a movie than contains GRAPHIC violence, nudity, and foul language, that is what the R rating or even NC17 (is/was?) created for. Why should we attempt to push for more "adult" content in films that are generally geared towards younger audiences?
