Poster For Disney's Moana Revealed; First Trailer Coming On Sunday

Zootopia may have made $1 billion, but Walt Disney Animation Studios isn't done this year. Their next big animated feature, Moana, hits theaters Thanksgiving weekend.

Walt Disney Animation Studios didn't release a film last year and won't release one next year. However, they're making up with it by releasing two films this year. The first, Zootopia, was released back in March to critical acclaim and $1 billion. Their next film, Moana, was hinted at in Zootopia (Meowana. GET IT?!?!?), and is set to be their Frozen follow-up. It's another magic princess musical. Except this time with oceans and The Rock lending his voice.

While we've seen some concept and promo art in the past, today we've gotten a good look at the film through it's official teaser poster.


 

However, that's not all. According to ComingSoon.Net, the film's teaser trailer will be released on Sunday, June 12, and will most likely be shown in theaters in front of another big animated Disney flick (this time Pixar), Finding Dory. Moana is directed by Ron Clements & John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) and is writter by Clements, Musker, Jared Bush (Zootopia), Pamela Ribon (Samantha Who?), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). The film features the voices of Auli'i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Philipa Soo, and Alan Tudyk and songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton). Moana will be released on November 23, 2016.

I know l'll get some hate for this, but who cares I really wish Disney made traditional animation movies still. I was looking at the 2D version of Zootopia, then the art for this movie too and yet l know because this movie is going to be 3D it wouldn't be as beautiful as it could have been.

Thankfully Studio Ghibli and GKids still makes 2D movies, but l wish major studios still did too.

@BlackIceJoe - well we cna blame ourselves or the rest of the general public for the lack of 2D animation, as when Disney has tried to do new 2D animated movies they dont bring alot of profit, compared to their CGI movies. pricness and frog and winnie the pooh while not outright flops didnt made alot, which means not alot of people went to see them and support 2d animated movies (i am to blame too as i didnt saw either of them when they were in cinemas i saw them once they were out fo cinemas) and studios react to what makes money, if 2D animated dotn bring the profit that an CGI movie does, then they will not make them, because they need these to make money.

@eagc1995 - l agree with what you're saying and that argument has been brought up before, but there also was the whole boycott of the Princess and the Frog. I remember people were angry that Disney had their first big animated movie with a black person leading and then had her for the majority of the film as a frog. So l feel like that had an impact on why the movie failed.

I just wish Disney would try their luck again on 2D films. Plus another thing that isn't brought up is Disney animated movies were horrible for a time, it wasn't until John Lasseter took control of both Pixar and Disney Animation that Disney's animated movie got better again. So l feel like now is the time Disney should try again with a 2D movie, because now with John's input the movie could be great. I just would stick to the movie being about an animal instead of a human.

@BlackIceJoe - Truth to that. Princess and the Frog was absolutely fantastic. As was the recent Winnie the Pooh, for that matter. Each and every time I watch either with my younger siblings, I miss the Disney Renaissance era of animation even more. But at least the 3D films themselves are of quality, right? At least they aren't shite.

@ComiCop - Nope I'm not ignorant, I'm a New Zealander. I realise it's based on the myths of the "Pacific Region", and yes Maori DO NOT like when their myths, moko, gods...etc are appropriated for entertainment, unless permission is specifically given. They've gotten shitty in the past.
