SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS And BLUE BEETLE Have Been Outgrossed By PAW PATROL: THE MIGHTY MOVIE

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour recently beat every 2023 DCEU movie at the U.S. box office, but PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie has now managed to top both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle globally...

We've been hearing a lot about "superhero fatigue" lately, though much of the blame for that surely lies at the feet of a series of critical and commercial DCEU disappointments released by Warner Bros. Discovery.

This year, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all flopped, and that's led to yet another box office embarrassment for the beleaguered comic book franchise (we're hoping Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom can turn things around).

Animated feature PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, which is technically a superhero movie, has managed to surpass both the Shazam! sequel and Blue Beetle's respective global hauls, something none of us predicted would happen 12 months ago. Remember, it exceeded expectations from the start, beating Sax X when they opened opposite each other earlier this month.

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie has thus far earned more than $148 million; in comparison, Shazam! Fury of the Gods made $133 million, while Blue Beetle holds the dubious honour of being the lowest-grossing DCEU movie with $129 million.

It probably won't manage to catch up with The Flash's $270 million haul despite that going down in history as one of the biggest flops ever released in theaters.

A third PAW Patrol movie is in the works and taking down two iconic DC Comics superheroes is bound to make the animated franchise's creative team feel massively confident in this series becoming a mainstay in theaters moving forward.

When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups' archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it's too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.

Directed by Cal Brunker from a screenplay by Cal Brunker & Bob Barlen, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie stars Taraji P. Henson, Marsai Martin, Kim Kardashian, Chris Rock, Serena Williams, Alan Kim, Brice Gonzalez, North West, Saint West, Sir Trevor McDonald and Roman Kemp, with James Marsden, and Kristen Bell.

The movie is now playing in theatres.

This is up there with one of the most useless articles ever written for this site meant only to cause chaos.

Why weren’t there articles about Equalizer 3 or the Nun 2 both released after Shazam and Blue Beetle with a greater box office tally? Missed opportunities or not scandalous enough to feed off of the discordant energy of the masses.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a comic book website that actually has interesting stories? This is the last time I'm going to this site. I'm so sick of this type of story. I want actual news and interesting tidbits!

@BatNipplesBad - I like comic book resources

I ironically came across an old Reddit article saying to avoid this site, wondered why and it said because of Josh Wilding haha

It's not to bad this site IMO, but this article...yeah, Jesus

Why TF does this need to be an article? Haven't most movies made more than Blue Beetle and Shazam?

A lot of you are asking why this article is here, but this is an important metric to take note of. If anyone here took their kids to see the movie, they'd understand why. This is a kid's movie... that's made for kids. It's not a $200 million Pixar movie pretending to be both a kids movie and a mature movie, while being neither. This is a $30 million superhero movie made for 5 years olds that never once forgets what it is and who it's made for. Too many superhero movies today don't know if they want to be action comedies, action thrillers, dramas or science fiction fantasies. They become bland mish mashes that pick a scoop from each genre and never commit to anything. Paw Patrol is fully committed to what is and it works in spades. And it cost a lot less to make than its competition.

What's the lesson? Focus your movie. Cut the budget down. Get creative. If it's science fiction, go full-on science fiction. If it's action comedy, then it better be funny. If you say your super hero movie is a thriller, then it better thrill us.

How ironic would it be if Josh writes an article about how Paw Patrol flopped in the face of TMNT or Into the Spider Verse on Toonado... That would be really [frick]ing epic

That's hilarious. I bet the movie cost 1/10 of these two movies budgets.
