The end of Disney•Pixar's The Incredibles showed us just how powerful the youngest member of the Parr family is, and the trailers for Incredibles 2 have made it clear that Jack-Jack's wide array of abilities are going to do a number on his dad.
Jack-Jack can seemingly teleport, shoot lasers, generate fire, and turn himself into some kind of a demon baby. So why does Jack-Jack have all these superpowers? Well, aside from the obvious humor that comes with an overpowered infant, director Brad Bird says his powers related to his role in the family.
At a Pixar Q&A event, Bird talked about how each character's powers are connected to who they are. Bird says:
"...so men are always expected to be strong, so I had Bob have super strength. Women, mothers are always pulled in a million different directions, so I had her be elastic. Teenagers are insecure and defensive, so I had Violet have force fields and invisibility. Ten-year-olds are energy balls that can't be stopped.
And babies are unknown, maybe they have no powers, maybe they have all powers, we don't know. So, that's what Jack-Jack was, he was seemingly the first normal one in the family and then at the end of Incredibles you find out that he's the wild card, and that he's sort of the Swiss army knife of powers. And that to me reminds me of the way babies can grasp languages really easily and adopt them easily."
With their son being capable of so much destruction, keeping Jack-Jack in control might even be a more difficult task than taking down the movie's mysterious villain.
