INCREDIBLES 2 Becomes The Highest Grossing Animated Film Of All Time At The Domestic Box Office

After a record breaking debut in the United States, it is no surprise that INCREDIBLES 2 has surpassed FINDING DORY to achieve the landmark.

After four weeks at the domestic box office, Incredibles 2 has been dashing past animated features left and right, thanks to its undeniable four quadrant appeal. This weekend, the film broke its biggest record yet, going down in history as the highest grossing animated film in the domestic box office.

Due to its elastic legs, averaging around a 40% decline each weekend, the feature has surpassed Finding Dory to become Pixar's reigning champion. While Finding Dory finished its whole U.S. run at $486 million, Incredibles 2 jacked up around $30 mil this past weekend for a total of $504 mil.

In addition, it has entered the top five in the superhero genre, taking out Avengers: Age of Ultron to reach that goal. By the end of its run it is projected to reach $575 mil, which is $40 mil and above what The Dark Knight earned in 2008. The next film it would have to surpass to increase its ranking is The Avengers' $623 mil, though that is unlikely.

Check out the updated unadjusted animated domestic rankings below:

1. INCREDIBLES 2                 $504,000,000

2. FINDING DORY                  $486,000,000

3. SHREK 2                             $441,000,000

4. THE LION KING                  $423,000,000

5. TOY STORY 3                     $415,000,000

I’m curious as to what’s going on with the overseas box office numbers.

@PantherKing - It has released in only about half of its markets, with some big markets for Pixar having yet to release. It's actually performing like over 20% ahead of Finding Dory at the same time in the same markets. Which means it will likely end up with $650 million plus when all is said and done.

I like the film but I'm really surprised at this. Toy Story seems to be the better loved franchise. It's a great achievement for the Incredibles 2 to beat Toy Story 3.

Also, am I the only one that doesn't understand the title of this film? The first was called "The Incredibles". But the second is called "Incredibles 2". Seems strange.

@Nightwing1015 - Yeah, “The Incredibles 2” just rolls off the tongue better. Kind of a weird choice.

What was everyone’s opinion on Incredibles 2? I personally thought it was a (wait for it) Incredible film but not as good as the first.
The first one was so unique for it’s time and had such a memorable villain while the sequel didn’t QUITE have that impact.
Still loved it though and I’ll still see it multiple more times.

Very well deserved success. Hopefully it won't take long until we get a third film.

Will it make more than Frozen?

This was a worthy sequel in my opinion, although the first one is definitely better in terms of villain, plot, writing, etc. Not to knock this film at all though. I thoroughly enjoyed Incredibles 2.

I hope they make the third film Frozone-centric.

It wasn't that great. They ignored everyone but Elastic Girl and the villain was boring.
