IGN has debuted a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Ghost in The Shell, and there's quite a bit of cool stuff on display.

In addition to some brand new footage from the movie, we also hear from the director of the original anime, Mamoru Oshii, who paid a visit to the set. Plus, Scarlett Johansson and director Rupert Sanders share their thoughts on bringing this live-action take on the iconic property to life.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is at the helm of Ghost in the Shell, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk, and is set for release on March 31, 2017.

I recommend the two Patlabor movies also directed by Mamoru Oshii, he did those before Ghost in the Shell.

If we get to see her boobs like in the anime, I'll see this. Preferably in IMAX 3D.

Visuals look decent. Say what you want about Sanders, but Snow White and the Huntsman was a gorgeous film visually. Just hope he can nail the story here. The film has two really good screenwriters too. Hopefully the script is good too.

It certainly seems to have the look down

Will we get the Tachikomas though?

@ComicsBornAndBred - Thats my question too. We never saw them in Oshii's original, outside of the Alakuneda she fights at the end...but otherwise they are so prominent in the series and manga. We'll see! I'd love to see them.

Looking nice, really pleased how they are replicating a lot of Oshii's visuals like the dripping skin application from the intro. Still no 'Koma tanks though, wonder if they aren't including them.

My interest has been piqued for this film. I was ready to hate it owing but looks like they are embracing some of the culture and visualisation of the story. Won't be as good as the anime

I'm gonna have to re-watch the anime before i watch this movie. I forget what happens and if this movie is any good.

You know what pisses me off? How Hollywood underestimates anime. They put RUPERT SANDERS to direct GHOST IN THE FREAKING SHELL. I mean, that's like Steven Spielberg James Cameron Ryan Jhonson material, but nooo, let's give it to this so so director.

@ODanil - I completely agree but I'm hoping that this could be the film to make him A-list
