Deadline reports that DreamWorks has made a deal with Rupert Sanders to direct a live action adaptation of the Japanese futuristic thriller, with a new script from William Wheeler. The original Ghost In The Shell Manga was written by Masamune Shirow, and the subsequent film adaptation is up there with Akira as a benchmark Anime on which all that followed would be judged against. The story follows a member of an agency known as Section 9 named Motoko Kusanagi, as she searches for a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master. The live action film will be produced by Avi Arad, and Steven Paul.

If this is your favourite anime of all time, you must have very odd taste in anime. I prefer Mushishi. That shit was trippy as hell, but makes you think too.

It's on Netflix McNya, so you could check it out. I didn't like it, but anime tastes are incredibly variable.

Oh god! Dragon Ball Evolution and The Last Airbender are what will be shown 24/7 in a never ending loop in Hell.

This movie will fail. White washing a Japanese classic manga/anime will never work. The fanbase will be against it and it'll end up like White Akira.

1) not needed - the anime is perfect; and 2) if they do this anyway, it better be rated a hard R or it will suck balls.

@ RorMachine

shit man, haven't they learnt anything from the likes of speed racer, the last airbender & dragonball z.

you've got to try & keep it faithful to the source,no need to change the race of the characters.

Ron Perlman as Batou?

Either way, this is going to be a train wreck.

@InfiniteMonkey

I see FAIL coming.
Japanese names with Caucasians. LOL NEEEEEEEEEEEXT!

But isn't that how it is in most anime?
Caucasian looking characters with Japanese names?

Most of them are blonde, red-heads with round blue or green eyes.
The main characters almost always have Caucasian characteristics so I don't think it matters.

A pale White actress, with blue eyes and black hair perfectly fits how that character looks.

Until the anime characters look DISTINCTLY Japanese and not some ambiguous eur-asian mixture....or sometimes just plain Caucasian...I say let them cast White actors.

solid crew so far. Snow White and the Huntsman was trash but mostly due to Kristen Stwart
