Although its been reported we don't actually see Janet van Dyne's face in the film, virtually unknown actress Hayley Lovitt revealed on Twitter that she portrayed Janet in the film. It's also been revealed that Janet may not be dead in the film, and may retain her youthfulness if she's stuck in the Quantum Realm. Lovitt may have signed a multi-picture deal which would be exciting to see Janet explored more in upcoming movie releases.

Lovitt posted the information last night on her facebook, in regards to what her role entailed: "Well, I've had to keep my mouth shut about this for a number of months now. The official release date is tomorrow, but a lot of theaters have it today! I play The Wasp (the original Avenger! The one who NAMED the Avengers!), Janet Van Dyne, in Ant-Man. I believe Marvel has since decided to give Janet a much bigger role in the MCU of film (my own belief/speculation, you know how Marvel keeps things secret), with many speculating on who might play her. Because of this you miiiiight not recognize me in the film, as I am in FULL Wasp attire including helmet with yellow tinted eye glass. And my lines were cut to conceal my voice. But I'm still in this super awesome film! With this amazingly iconic Marvel credit and a really cool scene I got to shoot w Michael Douglas. And a little photo shoot that shows at the end of the film. I have seen this film, and it is SERIOUSLY FUNNY. If you aren't a comic fan, trust me, you will still enjoy this one. ‪#‎Antman‬ ‪#‎marvel‬ ‪#‎janetvandyne‬ ‪#‎MCU‬ ‪#‎iamjanet‬"

What do you think of the casting? Sound off below!

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Huh. I guess they really are covering all their bases. Anyways, Ant Man was fantastic, the last lines of dialogue/post credits had me hyperventilating tbh. One of my favorite MCU films thus far.

Pena was great. His flashback/storytelling scenes are hilarious.

A really fun romp and thank [frick] there's some one else at Marvel Studios who knows how to pick what they want a movie to be and stick to it besides the Russo Brothers.

The movie was so awesome, especially the scene with Ant Man and Wasp.

ehhhhh, i don't think this actress w/ play janet if she ever comes back. my money says that will get someone more 'seasoned', just like how they recast howard stark from iron man to iron man 2

Typical, formulaic Marvel film.
Paul Rudd, Michael Pena are hilarious though, and Michael Douglas is class as always.

Unless we are talking a prequel we need a much older Janet.

Lol so much for playing her cards close to the chest. She obviously wants to be asked back for the role. She said it herself though "Because of this you miiiiight not recognize me in the film,". My guess is they dress her up in a way so that you couldn't tell who the actress was so that they could delay the casting process of this major role until the later date. She was basically a glorified stand in much like how Damion Poitier got replaced by Brolin in the role of Thanos.

You don't see her face. But the flashback scene with Hank and Janet suited up was one of my favourite scenes. Hope she comes back; Michael Douglas suggested that his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, should play Janet. I love that idea, Janet and Hank would be awesome supporting characters.

Also anyone notice how damn good the CGI in the opening scene was with young Hank? It was almost flawless. I think this can open up some doors in cinema in general.

We wouldn't necessarily need an older Janet. It was explained that in the quantum realm, our rules of time and space are irrelevant, so she could very well still be young.

CGI Pym makes young Kevin Flynn/CLU look like a Toy Stoy character.

@YeezusWept Don't want to go into ***spoiler*** territory for those who haven't seen it. but having a young Janet in the present is kind of redundant. I mentioned younger actress because only a prequel with a young Hank makes sense based on how this movie ends ****Spoiler end credits****

This film was good and no it didnt use the same old Marvel formula. This movie was way different and didnt even feel like it was connected to the mcu until a scene happens which is pure glory.

I too hope Marvel listens to Douglas' suggestion and looks at Catherine Zeta Jones as Janet. I also like the idea that all that time spent in the quantum realm has twisted her and she becomes the MCU's Red Queen - except her arc will be that Pym, Hope, and Lang eventually remind her who she is and she reverts back to normal.

I think we'd need another sub-villain, too, but this should still be a good sequel.

Good for her!
She's got a nice small credit to add to her resume at least.

I really hope Janet will have a bigger role, sadly she won't be Wasp since it's clear Hope probably will take the mantle.
But she's an awesome character anyway.

And yeah, Catherine Zeta Jones would be an amazing choice

She and Damion Poitier can start a club. Maybe hang out with the three Jubilees and two other Kitty Prydes.

agreed! i thought of Tron 2 all during the opening and how much better the technology to do such has gotten since then, it's almost disturbingly accurate.
