AQUAMAN: New Stills Feature Before And After VFX Shots And A Better Look At The Monstrous Trench

Aquaman recently joined the $1 billion club and it's easy to imagine a sequel being announced a little later this year (Comic-Con seems like a pretty safe bet). Before that, we obviously have the Blu-ray to look forward to but if you're looking to relive some of the movie's most memorable moments, these stills are definitely for you!

As well as focusing on visually stunning scenes, we also get our best look to date at both that awesome sequence with The Trench and Arthur Curry and Mera's unexpected visit to Dinosaur Island.

In addition, there's some before and after shots of Orm in Atlantis' gladiatorial arena, Arthur's first visit to Atlantis, and a number of others. So, to take a look at these amazing new stills from Aquaman, all you guys have to do is hit the "View List" button below to take a look...

James Wan returned to his horror roots with The Trench sequence in Aquaman and this incredible shot shows the sheer amount of VFX work which went into bringing the monstrous villains to life.

This entire sequence played out like a horror movie and seeing Arthur and Mera surrounded on this boat as the monsters close in definitely felt like it pushed the boundaries of that PG-13 rating.

The use of colour in this sequence was also fantastic and the red underwater really pops off the screen and the second the flares start going out as The Trench close in is real edge of your seat stuff.

Two more visually impressive sequences, it's easy to see why Wan was disappointed when it was revealed that Aquaman's VFX team hadn't been shortlisted for an Oscar a little earlier this month.

We didn't get to spend a huge amount of time on Dinosaur Island but there's no denying that it was an impressive looking location and somewhere we're sadly unlikely to return to down the line.

Willem Dafoe's Vulko was supposed to make his debut in Justice League but the reshoots changed everything and he instead appeared in the DCEU for the first time during this adventure.

This before and after VFX shot shows that while Patrick Wilson was fully suited up in Orm's armour, everything around him bar where he was standing was brought to life thanks to special effects.

Atlantis looked amazing in Aquaman and while some fans were concerned after the trailer that debuted at Comic-Con, Warner Bros. definitely delivered by the time the DC Comics movie hit theaters.

Arthur sees Atlantis for the first time and is as blown away as the rest of us. It's incredible to see just how much of what we see in this sequence was added at a later date thanks to VFX.

Ctitics' Choice, The Oscars, and BAFTA left it out. Weird.

[frick]ing weird...especially considering what else made the Oscar’s shortlist

@InsaneCipher

Studios still send out before/after vfx screeners if the movies haven’t released. Pretty sure Mary Poppins was shortlisted 👀

For the Oscars, someone said that the voters only get a sizzle reel, they don't see the whole movie. If true, I can see why BP got through since the only gripes I had with it were the rhinos and the cave fight. Marvel left that shit out lol.

I love how this moment was pretty much recreated 100% from the concept art

Really that entire Trench scene was [frick]ing rad. The music, the visuals, that split screen shot. That was the closest thing Aquaman had to achieving a high. I wish the film was more like that.

Loved Aquaman. Favorite cbm of 2018 personally though I completely understand why some might find that statement laughable. It's cool, I know Aquaman has some glaring flaws. Buy everything else was just so above and beyond anything else. As I've said before and heard others say too, it's like what people reported about Avatar. People were obsessed with that world, its booty and the thrills of the visual spectacle and I never really understood that experience until Aquaman.

Even if everyone else hated Aquaman and it was just made for me to enjoy... I'd be fine with that lol glad so many others loved it too tho.

@regularmovieguy - thank you very, very much for sharing that. I absolutely adore Joaquin Phoenix as an actor. Next level skills.

The reason I took this user name is partly because I love Phoenix but also just because I think the whole idea of naming the character after Affleck was hilarious and too good of a username to pass up so I snagged it up. Plus it was at a point in my time on this site where I was in between accounts and I was starting to stop being vocal about Josh and all the bullshit this site pulls and started taking a more agent of chaos approach to laughing at the more absurd and carnivorous impulses of this site.

So me being ArthurFleck is part appreciation, part parody. I have every faith that JOKER will be a fascinating take on the character just from Joaquin alone. It's up to the rest of the crew to make sure everything else is up to par too. I'm pretty positive JOKER will be a decisive movie regardless.

“I'm pretty positive JOKER will be a decisive movie regardless.”

I think it will 100% be divisive in the CBM community. Critics/GA is another thing. I just want a little teaser to see how the tone is going to go.

I have a lot of faith that Joaquin really believes in this movie and that alone is enough imo.👌🏻

@regularmovieguy - truth. Still think he would have made a brilliant Lex. Even with the script Eisenberg had, Phoenix would have probably found a way to make all that crazy nonsense really seem like the rantings of a brilliant mind rather than... well... whatever the [frick] that was Eisenberg did.

But I'm happy he chose this role, just wish it was in the DCEU.

I'd love Wan to produce the GL movie...just overlook the visuals or something.

This movie was beautiful the water effects especially in the trench scene😍😍

That trench scene was gorgeous. But I really liked that neon blue Manta Sub scene. Really visually stunning.
