FAN-ART: Here's What Amber Heard Might Look Like As 'Mera' In AQUAMAN

With development on the first underwater comic book movie moving along nicely, it was recently revealed that Amber Heard (Magic Mike XXL) is in talks to play Mera in Aquaman alongside lead star Jason Momoa. What will she look like in the role? This fan-art attempts to answer that...

Created by the extremely talented @Bosslogic (via ComicBook.com), the artwork below offers up an idea of what Amber Heard MIGHT look like as Mera in Justice League and the planned solo movie for Aquaman. With director James Wan sharing the news via his Facebook account recently, it seems likely that The Rum Diary star will end up appearing in the movie alongside Jason Momoa, and if she looks half as good as this in the role, we'll be in for a treat! While that movie isn't set to be released until 2017, Justice League hits next year, so we should hear something official about this casting fairly soon. For now, let us know what you think of this artwork in the usual place.

Too "comicbook", and for what we've seen in Momoa's actual costume, is not what Snyder is looking for.

Pretty average photoshop work...

Inconsistent lighting, pixel resolution and poorly used / tacky filters and blurs.

Not worth a article IMO

Anyone who lives under water would be very white. Aquaman is only half Atlantian so it is understandable for him to not be white

I'm curious... Will she be alien, human, or Atlantean? In the comics, she's from another dimension.

What a waste of talent is the creation of this artworks, DC will release a real concept art and nobody will care about this beautiful painting ever again. So sad.

@rabid I'm quite sure she's from xebel. Which makes her the same species as aquaman

For all of you who can't look past the color of a person's skin:

Jason Mamoa: Native Hawaiian, American Indian, *German*, *Irish*

Gal Gadot: *Polish*, *Austrian*, *German*, *Czech*

True. I forget that they retconned Xebel to be an earth colony. It was originally an alien waterworld, but these days it's more like Atlantis' version of the Phantom Zone, a place to store criminals. So yeah, the Xebels are earthlings.

@rabid what other versions were you referencing? Because the only aquaman comic that I've read was the new 52.

"Too "comicbook", and for what we've seen in Momoa's actual costume, is not what Snyder is looking for."

I agree. As we saw with Aquaman they're probably tweaking her visuals as well, making it more 'gritty'.

Back in the 60s it was called Dimension Aqua. It was a waterworld that existed on another plane. They retconned that about 5 years ago to reveal that it was an Atlantean penal colony.

@ALmazing "Wait, Why is Mera white? Shouldn't she be more like Momoa?"

Let me help you out here. Momoa's Aquaman is brown due to two contributing factors.
1. His father has dark skin
2. He has lived on the shore of a beach most his life within his father's lighthouse.

It would make more sense for Mera and the rest of the Atlantians to be a light skin color because of the fact that Atlantis is so deep within the ocean that sunlight does not affect them as much. Atlantians hate the surface, so they don't go up there to tan or anything but surveillance on the surface dwellers from time to time. There is no reason that any or all Atlantians should be Momoa's skin color.

I never liked the idea of Atlanteans opening their mouths to speak under water. there is no air for sound to travel... It should be telepathically. Hope they go that route in the movie
