Aquaman is set to be released well over a year after Justice League, but seeing as Warner Bros. is heading in the opposite direction to Marvel by having the team-up movie come before the solo outings, we don't know if any of them will be prequels or sequels to that. Wonder Woman, for example, falls into the former category, but where exactly will Aquaman be in the DCEU's timeline?
Cinema Blend recently sat down with producer Charles Roven and he confirmed that Aquaman will be set after the events of Justice League, interesting news considering the fact that the superhero ensemble was originally going to be a two-part movie. Here's what he had to say in full to the site:
"Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention. James [Wan] definitely knows where he’s going with [Aquaman], and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel — except for the bookends we have. So that’s where we have the most ability to freeform. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman… well not really. You can’t do a movie in between Batman v Superman and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League."
That all makes sense and it very much sounds like the plan is for upcoming movies to take place both before and after Justice League. It's a strategy that makes sense but one which runs the risk of confusing audiences used to seeing superheroes movies like these play out in chronological order.
