Black Vortex is a cosmic event, that will span across all of Marvel's Cosmic titles.
Marvel E-I-C Axel Alonso told CBR that the genesis of the comic book event came from the writers on each title, not from corporate.
"The seeds for [Black Vortex] were sown in both the Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men family of titles, as early as "The Trial of Jean Grey" and as recent as our new "The Legendary Star-Lord" series, but the whole thing came about organically. A couple of writers talked, they talked with some editors; everyone gauged each other's interest. This was an instance where the writers – Brian, Sam [Humphries], Gerry [Duggan], Kelly Sue [DeConnick] -- just saw the potential to tie everything together. The fact that all the characters occupy the same neck of the woods was clearly a factor, but there was no mandate from me to do anything like this."
"There are no plans for Skottie's [solo] "Rocket Raccoon" series to tie-in. But the Guardians of the Galaxy will be very involved, so he will play a big part of the event."
With Mockingbird showing up on Marvel's
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this past week (played by Adrianne Palicki), is it likely that the character will become more prominent in the comics?
"I'd bet it will, but there are no definitive plans at this stage."
Unless you've been living under a rock, Marvel Studios released an official trailer for
Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this week. The first official glimpse of footage from the Joss Whedon sequel smashed viewing records. However, the original plan was to release the trailer this coming Tuesday, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel has already stated that new footage will be released, which perhaps will be the extended trailer shown at
Comic-Con. Here's Axel's thoughts on the trailer.
"I love the mood of the trailer. It's ominous and scary and it makes me worry about the Avengers. At the Marvel Unlimited panel [at NYCC], we showed the crowd the extended trailer, and they roared so loud, we had to play it for them a second time, to even bigger applause. This trailer is doing exactly what it should be doing: getting everyone talking."
