 It's no surprise that the immense amount of destruction put on display during MAN OF STEEL was the subject of much discussion from critics and fans alike. Well Vulture.com has just released a very in depth comparison between the destruction seen in MAN OF STEEL and the just about to be released AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The writer of this piece has seen AGE OF ULTRON and makes some very insightful comments. Kyle Buchanan states,"I thought about that third-act carnage a lot while watching Avengers: Age of Ultron, which places an unusual emphasis on evacuating and saving innocent people." Unusual is a very valid point, from Transformers: Age Of Extinction to the current box office champion Furious 7  few blockbusters show their on-screen heroes actually taking time to stop and ensure the safety of civilians.

@MisterBatfleck I have nothing against MOS or DC/WB. This Vulture article is very well written and it's very clear that even if you don't count MOS not many comic book movies show super heroes trying to save people.

The Avengers were also evacuating people in the first movie. Even the New York Pig Dept was helping in the evacuation.

"Dawson...get off your "behind the screen high horse". LOL
I've watched both movies SEVERAL times. The point of the article is that the writers and directors didn't want to make AGE OF ULTRON a movie filled with destruction because non-comic book fans would be turned off.
Avengers had destruction in Manhattan. Man of Steel had destruction in Metropolis. People were killed in the battles. Superman was ALONE, fighting an equally super-powered army. Of course there's going to be destruction and people will be killed. There are many members on the Avengers team, AND they had SHIELD to back them up. Of course they can evacuate! DUH!
They're both movies based on comic book character(s)! It happens in the comics!
Ooooh, Marvel didn't kill people in their battles, but DC did. Bad DC! LOL Whatever."

I'd like to see the Justice League try just as hard to save people as the Vulture writer said The Avengers did in AOU. I really liked the scene in MOS during the battle of Smallville when Superman while in the middle of a fight stopped and checked to see if the soldiers were ok, even though they were against him at that point in time.

@Misterbatfleck I'm aware it's a subject that has been the cause of endless flame wars, but with AOU ready to hit theaters it sounds as though it includes the most apparent saving of civilians in the comic book movie genre (so far) and I think that is a very big deal as the entire genre gets older every year.

It's completely different! The Avengers is a TEAM of superheroes fighting robots. While Superman was fights highly advanced gods with no help from the Justice League at all.

Did anyone notice the devastation that the battle of NY caused in Daredevil? It worked because It was consistent with the tone of the show, as it was in MOS. Showing that devastation in the avengers would have been innapprorate.
