With Ultron Anchoring Marvel's AVENGERS Sequel, Is Brainiac Off The Table For JUSTICE LEAGUE?

With Ultron Anchoring Marvel's AVENGERS Sequel, Is Brainiac Off The Table For JUSTICE LEAGUE?

Early rumors pegged Brainiac as the villain of WB's Justice League movie but with Avengers: Age of Ultron, has that all changed? Will non comic book fans be able to tell the difference between Brainiac and Ultron?

Can WB still use Brainiac in Justice League: Part One after Avengers: Age of Ultron?

On May 01, 2015,  a maniacal robot threatens the Earth and only The Avengers can stop him....On November 17, 2017,  a maniacal robot threatens the Earth and only the Justice League can stop him.  The Warriors and The Wanderers (1979).  Volcano and Dante's Peak (1997).  Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down (2013) - Hollywood's list of "Twin Films" is actually quite extensive.  Almost every year, it seems that there's a race between two different studios to release films with similar plots.  While not quite "twins", with Marvel Studios releasing Avengers: Age of Ultron later this year (May 1, 2015) does that mean Justice League: Part One (November 17, 2017) would be better off not using Brainiac?

Bigger threat? Ultron's drone army or Brainiac's planet destroying ship?

If Marvel uses a maniacal, mechanical menace for it's superhero team-up film, can Warner Bros. do the same?  The answer may rely on the similarities and differences between each villain.  Both Ultron and Brainiac are tech based.  Both want to destroy all of humanity.  And both are prone to downloading themselves into a backup robot body when on the verge of being destroyed/defeated.  However, the end game for each villain is vastly different.  Where Ultron wants to wipe out humanity, Brainiac wants to destroy the planet.  The methodology of each villain is also different.  Recent depictions of Ultron have the robot relying on a massive drone army.  Brainiac typically uses his spaceship or other weapons of mass destruction to threaten the planet.  It's an issue of force vs intellect that could be an argument that both supervillains are different enough that the general audience won't think WB is merely copying Marvel.

It pays to be first...

If WB does indeed go with Brainiac as the villain for Justice League: Part One, many comic book fans will claim that the film is merely copying Avengers: Age of Ultron.  This is the type of negative spin that movie studios generally seek to avoid.  Marvel has the history of using comic book fans to spread knowledge of the characters to the greater percentage of the audience that know nothing about the genre.  Case in point, Kevin Feige and other members of the Marvel Studios brain trust have publicly stated that they were counting on fans in the audience to explain to non comic book fans who was that "purple guy" at the end of The Avengers.  WB and to a larger extent, Time Warner shareholders do not want these fans whispering to non comic book fans at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that WB is copying Marvel by introducing Brainiac.  Even more damaging would be the non comic book reading populace looking at trailers and TV spots and recognizing similarities between Ultron and Brainiac.  In today's oversaturated superhero film slate, studios must look to new and innovative characters and concepts to hook ticket purchasers that are becoming increasingly jaded with the genre.

Will the Justice League movie use Brainiac? More rumors have surfaced, claiming the big bad will be Darkseid or even Doomsday.  The more appropriate question now, is whether the Justice League movie CAN use Brainiac? Has Marvel already bought up all the evil robot landscape?  Or are the differences between Ultron and Brainiac great enough that the general audience won't be confused or have a sense of deja vu?  Sound off below with your own theories and ideas, maybe someone at WB is watching and listening...

Brainiac would be better saved for the Superman sequel, Than for Justice League.

They should go Legion of Doom. Totally different from Marvel, and quite epic.

Also, I always hated the idea of taking a sole hero's villain and using them for the team up *cough*loki*cougH* I'd much rather them use a Justice League villain.

Go Darkseid first. Save Brainiac as the villain that sends Doomsday to fight Superman in a Death of Superman movie.

I think Brainiac is different enough from Ultron that he could be used without it seeming to similar. After all he is an alien cybernetic organism, not a robot made on earth

Personally, I don't think it matters....

All of these movies will be compared and have similarities regardless....

And, Brainiac is an awesome villain, he should definitely be in the DCCU..

I wonder when we'll get Doomsday, and what role Zod (or Zod's body) will play in Batman v Superman.... I've heard everything from using Zod's DNA to make Doomsday, to Batman using Zod's armor to go toe to toe with Supes

Screw Brainiac, go for either Darkseid or Mongul. I want the threat in the film to be one being that is so powerful it takes the world's mightiest heroes to beat it in battle. Not some robot that just sends waves of drones to attack the earth until a virus is downloaded into his software...

Or something like that....

Sigh.....

BRAINIAC IS NOTHING LIKE ULTRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ultron is a [frick]ing robot!!!!!!!!

Brainiac is a [frick]ing alien!!!!!!!!

Only time Brainiac was robotic was in the 80s a bit and in the Bruce Timm DCAU but he was still alien!!!!!!!

Ultron is typically "kill all humans" robot bullshit. Brainiac is much more interesting to use.

Where as Ultron's based on just destruction, kill all humans, robots are better, evolve to robots; Brainiac is one who seeks knowledge. He's invade your planet, steal a city, then blow your planet up and not think twice about it.

Use Brainiac.

If you're going to use Brainiac use Grant Morrison's New 52 Brainiac.

There will always be comparisons, they can't be avoided.
WB should just do what they think is best, whatever their suits think will make them the most cash.

This is like asking if Darkseid's off the table because of Thanos? Absolutely not. Brainiac and Ultron differ vastly, anyways. It's a valid question though, but hopefully they use Vril Dox continuity.

Not use Brainiac? One of Supermans greatest enemies can not be ignored. Far too important.

From what we've now seen of Ultron, there's no problem at all. Ultron is an A.I. version of Stark that wants to eliminate humanity. Brainiac is a far more intellectual A.I. that wants to capture advanced civilizations to preserve their knowledge for himself. Very different. Though I think Brainiac is more of a Superman villain, so they should go with Darkseid, whose cosmic New God origins could tie into Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.

Just don't have Brainiac make puke jokes and people won't compare him to Ultron ;)

Well I hope to god not, from what iv'e been hearing Ultron is yet again ANOTHER disappoint MCU villain.

It's not about who did it 1st, it's about who does it better. So with that being said I hope DC does Brainiac and I hope FOX does Danger in a X-Men movie.

Seeing as how the Justice League film is going to be a whopping two parts, I think they need to find a villain that'll manage to hold the screen for two entire films.
TronVin

Batman v Superman - Wonder Woman investigates Superman to see if he is an Agent of Darkseid.

Wonder Woman - Orion and the New Gods enter the story similar to Brian Azzarello's run. Mention Darkseid briefly.

Justice League - Opening scene on Apokalips explains Darkseid's motives. Darkseid is dying and the cure is on Earth. Justice League fluke by with a victory. Darkseid will return but stronger than before. Hey, Darth Vader was defeated in A New Hope but came back.

Death of Superman - Doomsday is the villain of the first half and Brainiac is the villain of the second.

But tweak it to where the group is made up of villains the heroes fought in previous films. That would've been amazing.

Brainiac could be used by Darkseid in justice league.

Why do people think Brainiac and Ultron are so similar? They really aren't.

The fact that one of Superman's greatest villains still hasn't been put on screen yet is baffling. I really want to see Brainiac in this shared DC universe.

Pretty sure Brainiac don't gonna say things like "I can't physically throw up in my mouth.", so I'm sure GA don't gonna confuse him with LoLtron.
