AVENGERS: ENDGAME Concept Art Reveals Early Time-Travel Machine Designs, Memorials For The Fallen, And More

The "Art of" book for Avengers: Endgame isn't set to be released until November, but some concept art from the Marvel Studios movie has now popped up online, and, well, this is all really cool!

As well as presenting us with some different time-travel machine designs, it's revealed that the method to send Earth's Mightiest Heroes back through history was once very different and quite similar to the effects used for "The Snap." We also get to see some of the locations the team visited in the past, Ronin in Japan, and Scott Lang's visit to those haunting memorials in the present day.

There are even some deleted scenes here, including one featuring Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.

These pieces of artwork provide a fascinating look at how Avengers: Endgame was brought to the big screen and are well worth checking out, so hit the "View List" button below to do so.

Here, we see Iron Man and Black Widow travelling back in time and, as you can see, it appears as if they were going to be "dusted" in a similar way to those who died in Avengers: Infinity War

It's a pretty chilling effect but one that would have effectively shown how the heroes were basically broken down to their molecules before arriving wherever they were meant to go in the past.

This is a very different time-travel machine to the one we saw in the movie itself and much smaller. As a result, it would have taken an awful lot of trips for the team to go back and forth in time!

More dusting effects, this wouldn't not have been a bad take on the time-travel machine but an argument could definitely be made that the one we ended up getting looked just a little bit cooler.

This scene didn't make it into the final cut but was featured in the trailers. Apparently, it was meant to show Black Widow training while living in The Avengers Compound but wasn't needed.

This is the hangar in The Avengers Compound and obviously a lot more expansive than the version that ended up in the movie. It would have been cool seeing all those different vehicles, though!

These designs show Clint Barton/Ronin in Japan and offer some insights into how the setting of his first appearance in Avengers: Endgame was dreamed up. The use of neon is very eye-catching.

It seems as if we were once going to head even further back in time in New York City. It's hard to say why Earth's Mightiest Heroes would have travelled there but this would have been fun to see.

This is obviously Fort Leigh, the location Steve Rogers and Tony Stark travel to in order to track down the Tesseract. Little did they know that they would cross paths with Howard Stark here!

Scott Lang finds himself back in the present day and the world has obviously changed in the short amount of time he was in the Quantum Realm. More imagery like this would have been great.

If only has was that cheap these days, eh? These shots were no doubt used to establish what the periods the team would travel back in time to would look like and are all both really well put together.

Tony Stark's apartment can now be rented out for a crazy sum on Airbnb, while these images of the monuments erected for those who had died are obviously very striking and extremely haunting.

Many thanks to Sean Hargreaves for the artwork used in this post. See more from him here!

The time-travel stuff is neat. That's so crazy they thought of dusting them to get them back in time visually. Not sure how the audience would've reacted to that. They created a pretty iconic gut-punch with the ashes thing. People screamed 'Too Soon!' in my theatre when the Infinity War end credits had that dusting effect transition.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - It wouldn't fit with the established settings though
Getting broken down to molecules won't get them to go through the Quantum Realm

@SpideyPuffsMJ - i like the idea that dusting is time related... dusting with no destination puts you in the 'time' gem? dusting with a destination takes you to another time.

A bit off topic, but while I wasn’t a fan of the 5 year time jump, the MCU could use that story arc to introduce the F4 perfectly. In that 5 year span, the F4 could’ve built up their names as explorers, gotten their powers, and bought the top floor of the Avengers (now Baxter) building.

@KWilly - I kind of like this idea. I'd only add that maybe they too have been missing in that span of time after venturing out into the cosmos.

Question is, how prominent are they? Are they world renowned or a small think tank of sorts at this time?

@hazapez - We clearly watched different films.

@hazapez - steve remarked about seeing whales in the river (completely unheard of nowadays)... but we also saw the great loss people had to live with which devastated their normal life, yes, there was more food to go around but it was being eaten by people hugely depressed.... which resulted in things like fat Thor for example.

@JonC - similarly when hulk did his snap, there were birds chirping just outside the compound right after they opened the shields... they weren't there before so sometimes having 'more' is not such a bad thing?

@hazapez - it really wasn't meant as a debate. Thanos was always meant to be wrong, whether looking at it from a moral or a logical stand point. Thanos isnt meant to be relatable because you agree with his method. You're supposed to empathize with him.

'this wouldn't not have been'

Using a similar effect just like the snap's that led to the Decimation for the time travel mechanics is a little eerie IMO. 🤔

@NinnesMBC - probably a reason why they didn't use it. Also because they decided to use the pym quantum tech to just go into the quantum realm then reappear in whatever time you want. The method to travel into the quantum realm has been thoroughly explored in the ant man movies as the shrinking effect
