A new episode of Russo Bros. Pizza Film School will air this Friday, July 10th, at 12pm PT/3pm ET on IGTV and the AGBO YouTube Channel. This week's movie will be the classic Flash Gordon directed by Mike Hodges (available on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, and iTunes Movies).

A movie like that requires a special guest, of course, and the Avengers: Endgame directors will be joined by Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder helmer Taika Waititi. He's said on a number of occasions that the movie inspired his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it's obviously going to be interesting to see what he has to say about the 1980 camp classic.

The weekly show created and hosted by the Russos aims to educate and spread some love for their favorite films while movie lovers are stuck at home during the pandemic.  The Bros will assign a movie for the class every week, and tune in with guests to talk about how different flicks have transformed their relationship to cinema, while enjoying pizza from a local pizzeria.

Previous movies discussed on the show include La Haine, Ronin, The Evil Dead, The Empire Strikes Back featuring Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, and most recently, No Country for Old Men with Josh Brolin. We recently caught up with the Russos to discuss Pizza Film School, and you can check that out by clicking here

Ted is probably the only movie in history where watching Flash Gordon is a prerequisite.

Cool, I always said that Ragnarok felt like the 80s Flash Gordon movie.

What @CowboyzMex214 said. The Queen soundtrack is awesome. Too bad the movie was not nearly as good, but it is fun in a cheesy, camp way.

@RolandD - I remember watching the film with my brother (1st showing). As soon as the film started it was pretty clear Queen was playing with Brian May's unmistakable sound. This was when Queen was at the height of their powers in America (1980), having pulled off two #1 hits the Summer of 1980 that just preceded the film: Another One Bites the Dust and Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Queen alone brought the film to another level. Yeah, a campy film, but incredibly fun and it's become a classic. I'm convinced much of it influenced James Gunn on his first GOTG film.

An early detail of the Russos' career only sprung to my mind last night, I happened to be watching some old interview. Their first real professionally backed, studio movie (I qualify that because their VERY first feature ever "Pieces" was a pure indie they did like every job on) "Welcome To Collinwood", it was a remake of a foreign film. That early in their process, how did they manage to secure the rights for it, that by itself would've been costly enough. unless they wrote the script on spec for the hell of it, I mean hell I adapted a book w/o permission 20 years ago, and just lucked out. They've said how Steven Soderbergh loved their indie so wanted to work with them, they had three scripts written already, and Collinwood is the one Soderbergh liked most, so he EP'd it with Clooney. so unless they just bought the rights before the start of actual filming by way of Section 8.

Classic movie with scenes they aren't allowed to film today.

@GeneralZod - I’m pretty sure I knew it was Queen even before I went but his style is unmistakable. Even when he’s playing a Telecaster instead nod the Red Special, you know it’s him playing.
