Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, and Anthony Mackie recently appeared at ACE Comic-Con and it didn't take long until the subject of Avengers: Infinity War (and its untitled sequel) came up. While the trio couldn't share any specifics, the possibility of this being the last Marvel Studios movie for some of them was obviously addressed and Evans was quick to praise his longtime co-star Robert Downey Jr.
"He’s such a wonderful guy and is so talented, and so experienced, and so supportive," the actor explained. "He’s always been in my corner. I’ve always felt supported by him. He really brings everybody in to the group and makes sure everyone feels welcome, especially on this last one."
As for what comes next for Iron Man, in particular, Evans made it clear that he believes there's no chance Downey Jr. can ever be replaced as the Armoured Avenger. "He really is so irreplaceable. Nobody can ever be Iron Man. Nobody. It’s not a role like a Superman or a Batman that can kind of find different incarnations. No one can touch it. No one can." Well, that's a pretty bold claim!
Kevin Feige has previously said that Marvel will recast lead roles James Bond style as opposed to rebooting their franchises but it would be tough to have someone follow Downey Jr. and Evans makes a very good point here.
